My brokerage, Ameriprise, does the same thing. The cash balance shown on
my statement is actually invested in an in-house fund so it earns a
little interest. Every brokerage I've used did the same thing. They all
called it cash in the analysis section, but they don't include the
buy/sell transactions when I download activity.

With my first broker, I manually entered the buys and sells to show the
positions in the in-house fund. When I moved and changed brokerages, I
gave up on that. There was no advantage that I could see, and it was a
lot of trouble to make the entries. Besides, my current statement calls
it "cash", so that lines up with what Money says.

You can make all the entries yourself if you want, and it won't hurt
anything but your fingers and your free time, but I recommend against
it.

Default Cannot link correct cash account to investment account

I have an account that uses a money market fund as its cash account. I
cannot seem to figure out how to get Money to use this money market fund to
debit and credit cash transactions. Rather, Money has a "FundName (Cash)"
account that it uses. As a result, the balances in Money do not agree with
the account's actual balances since the account manager is debiting and
crediting the money market fund and has no cash account tied to the account
while Money is assuming that all cash transactions are handled by the
non-existent cash account.

How can I get Money to use the money market fund as the cash account for all
cash transactions?
