Interesting! There was a similar issue with Norton a while back. To fix it
Norton had to be completely removed from the PC - just disabling it wasn't
enough.

Ok it was not completely the online services. As the user would still get
the issue more times than not.

So I gave up and rebuilt Vista ultimate 64 basically from scratch.
Installed all the updates and then my AV. Put on money and office 2007.
Guess what now both accounts have the problem. This REALLY bothered me since
I just went through a rebuild and I'm thinking now what. Well one thing I
did back in Dec when this started showing up was upgraded my AV.

So since I installed even a newer version now than I did in Dec I didn't
think it was it but thought I should test it out. So I uninstall AV (nod32
3.0.621 and all v. 3 before) and guess what WORKS like a charm. So I
installed my nod32 v. 2.7 and we are working like a charm! I'm going to put
in a support ticket but wanted to thank everyone for trying to help me.

I now know for sure this is the problem as I have been without issues for
almost a week now.

Is your error message "Visual C++ Runtime Error Microsoft Money has
encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the
inconvenience. To see what data this error report contains, click
here."? See if
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305254 or

Ok I know what it has to do with.

This issue has to do with "Online Services" If I check the box to login
without using online services from this account I do not have any issues.

Last night I deleted this profile and started it over thinking it had to be
something in the profile. First time logging in it was just locked and also
looked the Explorer Shell for about 20 min. When it finally came back I
thought what happens in the beginning. It goes to the internet. So I
decided to close the file got the Visual C++ error and then reopened but
this time I check the box to not use online services. Guess what works like
a charm every time and the user can enter transactions now.

So what is different between this account and the other. Parental Controls
for the Web are set for this account. My question is what changed in
December that would of caused this?? Also why aren't more people
experiencing this??? What I have not verifed yet is if I disable parental
controls would the user be able to use online servicese??? Further research
is in order but atleast I have a path and some information. Also some help
on managing money since I was the only one able to use this database for the
last month!!!

Moved to: microsoft.public.vista.file_management
As I believe this must have something more to do with Vista than Money.

Still getting transactions that get entered and don't show in register when
ever this user uses the account now. I'm going to try and reinstall
microsoft plus from her account. Set her as admin for this.

I suggest making a repaired version of your file with
File-> RepairMoneyFile-> StandardFileRepair level 2.

Also, to prevent confusion, I would name the files differently.

One question here and sorry to jump in on this but kind of having the same
issue.

I have Vista Ultimate 64 and setup money to work in two different (user)
accounts. The money file is stored in one of the accounts documents area
and I have shared this area and in the other account mapped a drive to the
location. This has worked perfectly for 9 months. We upgraded to money
plus in September and have also not had any problems. Well starting at the
end of December my shared account has started to have problems. For some
reason the file crashes will get the same error:
"MS Money has encountered a problem and needs to close. We appologize for
the inconvenience"
Or sometimes
I get this visual c++ error (this is from memory).

the other thing the account experiences is they will add transaction and it
doesn't show in money in the register. If I search the register I can find
the transaction but it still doesn't show. The first time this transaction
experience happen I also could find it in the other account but wouldn't
show in register either. So I ran a repair on the file. fixed some issues
and all of a sudden these transactions where now gone. Could not search
them anymore. So added them back in and they went in the register. Well
about 3 days later it is happening again.

I am a bit concerned with the date thing as it was ROUGHLY around this time
the first account started having the errors and transaction issues. The
other account does not have these issues except for seeing the data issues
performed by the first user.

Sorry for the book.

I don't know why it happened. You want to think about your backup
strategy, not for Money, but for other things as well.
Applications/programs you can reinstall. Your data and documents are
what you want to back up. Suppose somebody asks "why did my hard
drive crash?" Anyway, here is what I suggest for Money.

In M+: Tools-> Settings-> BackupSettings
I suggest checking
x Automatically backup my Money file every time I close Money
Save in [a place on your hard drive ]
x Ask me before backing up each time*
x Compress Backup Files
Keep only the _20_most recent backup files [adjust to taste--
I use 99 because I have a big hard drive]

x Perform scheduled backups every _30_ days
Save in [a USB flash drive location]
x Ask me before backing up each time*
x Compress Backup Files
Keep only the _2_most recent backup files [adjust to taste]

Then periodically, perhaps each month or three, copy your latest
backup (uniquely named by Money) to a CDR.

I strongly suggest use of a USB Flash drive rather than floppies.
They are bigger, so you don't have to swap media to back up. Plus
they are much more reliable (but not failure-proof).

* The reason I have Money ask me, is that I don't want to back up
each time I exit. If I went into Money 5 times in a day, I would
not want to back up 5 times, nor would I want to delete 5 other
backup files. You will be given the choice to BackUpNow or to
Postpone.

Right. When you select that, it lets you choose to restore from a
backup file. It lets you chose the most recent, or will let you
Browse to see others. The filenames incorporate a time+date as part
of the filenames. When you restore, you can restore to the "default
location." That means to overwrite the existing file with the same
name. Or you can Browse for that and choose a new name. Both files
will then exist on the drive

You also have File-> RepairMoneyFile too I assume.

Before logging in, I would try making a repaired version of your
file with
File-> RepairMoneyFile-> StandardFileRepair level 2

If that does not do it for you, I would File-> Restore your latest
backup or the one prior.

Default Money Plus, receiving error message since 12/26, cant login HELP

We recently installed the trial version of MS Money Plus Home and Business,
we wanted to test it out to see if its what we really needed.

I had been using it for about 45 days when all of a sudden on 12/26 I
started receving the following message after I entered my login info.

"MS Money has encountered a problem and needs to close. We appologize for
the inconvenience" Please tell microsoft about this problem, send error
report.

I am using a laptop computer and there have been no changes made to this
computer since I loaded this trial which is set to expire next week. I tried
calling for support but because its a trial version all they would do is
recommend me to online support.

I don't know what else to do, this is very frustrating, its been a week now
of not being able to access our info.
