Alternative to that, you could File-> Export QIF files from each
account. Trim each with a text editor (not a word processor).

File-> Import all at once as new or recovered accounts into new file.
Adjust starting balances. Read up on QIF export/import.

Cal,

Then I think I'll delete the latest file and make a copy of my old file -
calling the copy "2008.mny" and then manually delete all of the 'old
stuff' from 2008.mny - knowing that if I need to see 'old stuff' , I'll
have to use my old file.

Thank you and Happy New Year.

No. You can set the Portfolio view to not display closed positions.
I understand that this is not the solution you were asking for.

There is plenty of room for more.

Archive does not remove investment transactions. Since the Archive
file contains a copy of your file at time of Archive, you might want
to consider reverting to that to get your old checking transactions
back too. You cannot re-integrate later.

Default Archive - remove transactions in M2006?

Wanting to clean up my .mny file, I copied it - renamed as 2008.mny and
opened 2008. I then archived it - thinking I would purge old/outdated info
.... that it would leave any relevant items in the register.

When I ran archive, it did NOT prompt me to choose Fidelity or Vanguard
etc ... just 'subcategories' like "Fidelity Cash Reserves" and VHCOX (
Vanguard cash account) etc.
so how to have it "forget " old brokerage accounts if it does not list
them with a checkbox?
Before/after "archiving" I still see the old register items.

Can I " make it forget closed positions" using any feature of Money
Deluxe 2006 ?

What I'm TRYING to do is purge all closed/outdated "mutual fund /stock
purchases and sales". For example, I'd LIKE to just see in my Fidelity
register info ONLY related to open positions. I currently own Fidelity
Value Fund. If while showing Portfolio, I click on Value Fund, I see that
the register it is FULL of outdated info. Yeah I bought some in 1998 and
sold on Dec 30 1999. I bought some more in 2001 and sold it ALL in 2005.
If I bought /sold 100 shares of Disney 10 years ago - remove all that
"historical stuff " from my Register - leaving info on CURRENTLY held
positions !
Old Savings bonds that were redeemed - Forget them ! etc
Show me info JUST on what I currently own.
Thanks.
