Default Re: security of the Money file

As Dick Pointed out, the Money Password on the file can be easily cracked.
Either if the person signs into windows or accesses the disk without signing
into windows (accessing it from another machine).

Thus in my opinion you are better off with looking at the complete problem
of protecting the file itself. Their are many whole disk and partial disk
encryption programs that will protect your file while it is on a laptop. I
originally used the encryption built into Windows XP which will allow
encryption of files and directory structures on the laptop. I now use whole
disk encryption to protect the entire laptop and then use Windows encryption
for specific files for privacy of those files even during backup.

Note: I do not run Money on my laptop as it is a corporate laptop.
I do however see need to also protect the file while it is on an external
backup like a USB drive.

Not terribly. Search the web for access password crack.

Default security of the Money file

A friend is considering installing Money on a laptop. Suppose that the
laptop gets stolen and that the thief manages to sign in to Windows. If
Money has a normal password, and "Remember my password" is not checked, how
secure is the financial information?
