Yes, as noted previously, I think we all understand why upgrading
applications makes no sense if the data won't go along for the ride.

As to your second point, I suspect if anybody had any better ideas you would
have read them by now.

Well if I can not move the dat to the newer version, there is no point to
upgrading, because I don't want to spend months just to move the data
manually

But why is the file not openned by 2008 and perfectly opened in 2004,
espacially since it does tells me that the file need to be upgraded

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand the impacts of the problem.

The file was and is located in a location that I can read and write, and it
is openable by Money 2004 but not 2008

If I am to upgrade to Money 2008, I need all the data that I have already
enter into Money 2004, otherwise there is no sense to upgrading

That ("could not be openned") was the exact error message?

It's interesting that it got as far as knowing that it needed to upgrade the
file before saying it could not be opened. It would have had to open it to
know it needed upgraded.

Where was the file? Was it in a directory that you can write to? If you copy
the file to your desktop and open it from there--double click on it--what
happens?

Your problem could well still be related to the cross-localization involved
here.

You'd like to think it was that simple.

Cal & Dick,
To add to the info mix: from his answering of questions in his previous
post, we learned that the OP is Canadian and therefore is probably importing
from M2004 Canadian into M+ USA.

If you have a Passport on your file, there is a temporary problem.

http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com...orkstatus.aspx seems
to offer a solution in step 2, but I am not confident that is going
to work for you yet. Let us know.

How about more data besides "could not open"???? Like what exact messages
did you get? If none, what happened instead? How were you trying to upgrade
your file? What steps, exactly?

Default Moving from 2004 to 2008

Hi,

I would like to move from the Money 2004 to 2008, but when I tried the trial
version, to see what would happen in the real move, I could not open a copy
of my own financial data.

What can I do

PS. I got no answer the first time
