Stock quotes have never been tied to Passport/WinLiveID.

But not all banks cooperate directly with Money download like yours. Those
that don't tend to force the WinLiveID or foregoing downloaded transaction
data.

I'm sure glad that I never opted to link my Money account with my
Passport. There don't seem to be ANY benefits to linking them. I can
download my checking account statements.... I don't have any stock quotes
linked, so maybe that would be a benefit, but I don't.

To see what "services" you get on 'your version' , open Money - Help -
Internet Services Policy and you'll see:
( For M2006)
" Microsoft® Money 2006 includes up to two (2) years of Internet-Based
Services. You will be able to use the Internet-Based Services in Microsoft
Money 2006 for a period of two (2) years from activation of the product or
until September 1, 2008, whichever is earlier. "

Okay, if you're right, then once the problem is fixed and I start using my
Passport logon, I suppose I still won't be able to get automatic stock price
updates (which is the only service I'm interested in, really).

Will the message box then change to indicate my service is expired, from the
"unable to connect" message I get now?

On the other hand, there's a message elsewhere on the board that suggests
services might be extended for Money 2006 users, though that might not apply
to my Money 2003. Any ideas?

I interpret that as you will be able to sign in, but there will be
no available feature that requires sign in, except as a way of
passwording the file. That way of passwording the file may well be
more effective than simple password, tho I am not sure.

I'm confused by two contradictory items on the web page below. At the top,
it says MS is working on the problem. Further down, it mentions "Money 2003,
2004 and 2005 Online Services expiration notification" and the fact that one
has a maximum of three years of access.

As a user of Money 2003 whose three years are certainly up by now, should I
expect a fix that will allow me to sign on again, or should I assume my
access has expired and I must upgrade?

Thanks,
Elliott

To emphasize the last paragraph in Cal's first point - when signaling in
off-line you must use the password that last worked. The file is encrypted
using that password and as you can't get on-line it doesn't know about any
subsequent on-line password changes. The Program version doesn't matter as
the password is associated with the .mny file not the program.

Default Money 2004 Passport problem suggestion recap

This is an attempt to describe what can do if you are having
problems with the 2007 holiday season problem. Check
http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com...orkstatus.aspx
for later information.

If you have Money 2004 or earlier file with a Passport on it, there
is currently a problem with logging in online with those pre-Money
2005 versions. Upgrading of a Money 2004 or earlier file with a
Passport on it will not work. If you can remove the Passport, you
can upgrade and put a Passport/LiveID on the file.

Method 1.

Log in offline. In Money 2004, you should be able to click where it
says "I don't need to use online features that require Microsoft
Passport".

The Passport information you will need to log in with is that in
effect when you closed the file.

Method 2.

Make a copy of your Money file (*.mny) under a different name.

Log in offline. In Money 2004, you should be able to click where
it says "I don't need to use online features that require Microsoft
Passport".

Then File-> PasswordManager, attempt to remove your Passport. If
that is successful, you can continue to work with your current
version without Passport. For the North American versions at
least, except for the passwording aspect, the Passport-enabled
features would have expired anyway. You can add a conventional
password to keep the file secured from the mildly curious.

You can upgrade to a new version after successfully removing the
Passport in your older version. If you do that, you could add your
Passport/LiveID back after converting to the new version. Note
that Money Plus will allow you to do "Background Banking" direct
OFX FI statements downloaded in the background, even if there is
no LiveID on the file. If you have Money download statements from
institutions where a third party is involved, you will still need a
LiveID on the file.

Method 3.

Wait until a fix is working. Don't do the "don'ts". Check
http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com...orkstatus.aspx for
updated information.

----------- Don'ts:

Don't change your Passport/LiveID. If you do, use the one in
effect when you saved the file to get in.

Don't delete your Passport/LiveID. There may or may not be
recovery from that one. I don't know.

Dos.

Make a copy of your *.mny file and latest *.mbf onto flash drive or
burn it onto a CD or DVD. While being reminded that things can
fail, don't have your only Money files on your hard drive.
