Money is upward compatible, and not downward compatible. You
need a version at least as new as the one that you used when
you used that Money file.

Note that Money 2006 online features will expire. See Help-> About or
the License info for info. Thereafter you will still be able to
input info by hand and will be able to generated reports etc.

Note that an older version of Money cannot read a .mny file produced by a
newer version. So M2004 cannot read a M2006 file.

Have a look at http://money.mvps.org/faq/article/515.aspx for some
guidelines on running Money under Vista.

For Money, Vista same as XP. No difference.

If you are going to buy a new copy of Money, buy what you can buy.
Probably doesn't matter (although if you do online updates I suspect and
older copy will not work but I don't know details).

Just copy the .mny file from one machine to the other. Or do it via a
backup file.

Default 2006 XP vs. Vista

I am using 2006 now on my desktop, running XP. I just purchased a laptop
which runs Vista. I have lost the cd for my 2006 so I need to purchase
another. Do I have to stay with 2006 or can I buy a less expensive, maybe
2004 version of Money? Once I save and send my backup from my desktop to my
laptop, will the upload be easy even though one runs XP and other Vista? Will
the upload be smoother if I buy Money 2006 again? Thanks. I have quite a bit
of info on this software, running several businesses and printing checks,
etc. Thanks
