| While going in circles with Microsoft's email support for Money, I figured I'd add a data point for them and created a new Money 2008 file, associated my Live ID with it and secured it, and verified I could unlock it with that ID. I then went back to my Money 2004 file and still couldn't open it - the usual password error message. I also contacted the Live ID email support, they sent me a standard list of stuff to check (like did I spell my domain right) and I sent them a note with these data points. Unfortunately the "offline" mode mentioned in their Network Status page (as of today) doesn't work --- it still tries to authenticate me. But at least now, 10 days after they caused the problem, they seem to know about it, FINALLY... I'm really surprised this isn't in the news media yet, maybe all the reporters are off on vacation... | I am having same problem with Money 2003 version; will not log in with passport; can select option not to use online feature and can log in fine; I have to manually go to sites to download, where it automatically did it before overnight, but that is the only thing that seems affected. Believe my problem coincided with a Windows automatic update done overnight and causing my computer to restart. Tried changing passwords, deleting Windows Live, reloading software, to no avail. The fact that clicking on "Forgot my password" takes you to a site to buy new Money software tells the story. I expect some key folks are off for the holidays, so I would try to be patient. I understand that is not easy. |

I tried that in Money 2004 (several times), but probably because we> it says "I don't need to use online features that require > Microsoft Passport". > Can you then go to File-> PasswordManager and remove > the Passport, or did you not want to do that? set up the file to "secure" the data (instead of just using it for access to online services) it will NOT allow us to move forward at all without authenticating. In the newer versions, there's no such option. By the way, here is part of the latest (ROFLMAO... except my financial data file is still LOCKED... NOT FUNNY) response from Microsoft, verbatim... -- quoted text--- I am sorry to hear about the inconvenience you are experiencing. Before moving on, I would like to first let you know that Microsoft Online Support and Online Services for MS MOney 2004 has been discontinued. If you would like more information on warranty support for our retail products, please visit our Product Support Lifecycle list located at the following Web site: http://support.microsoft.com/default...n-us;lifecycle As a result of the product support being discontinued for this version we would like to suggest you upgrade to the most recent version of our software which is available for purchase by visiting http://www.microsoft.com/money/default.mspx If upgrading is not an option at this time we cannot provide support outside of the knowledge base articles posted to our public knowledge base for this product. We hope the above knowledge base articles will provide the steps required to resolve your issue. At this moment, I will be closing the case as not resolved. If you do not agree you can always replay to this email. -- end quoted text -- I emailed him back clarifying I can't apparently upgrade and to please re-read the last email I sent. I guess I'll have to try phone support, this 24-hour turnaround email crap is not working too well... someone in Redmond is probably laughing at us too... hahaha (not) Roger |

Can you then go to File-> PasswordManager and remove the Passport, or did you not want to do that? |

No luck... they seemed to think I was having trouble with the import> Good luck Roger. Let us know if MS gives you a solution. and sent me a solution that involved trying MS Money 2006... I got the exact same password message with Money 2006 when trying to open the 2004 file. Sent a note back suggesting they check their servers, review the discussion boards, and watch for news stories to hit the press.... maybe they better alert the PR department at the same time they fix or roll back their recent server changes... :-) Roger |

| I'm (still) having the same login problem with Money 2003. Good luck Roger. Let us know if MS gives you a solution. | You can (at least in the US) download the Money Plus Deluxe (2008) 60- day free trial from Microsoft. But even a clean install on a different PC wouldn't allow me to open my Money 2004 data file. So I've put in a support request via email to MS and will wait (impatiently, since I've got things to take care of in MS Money) to see if they fix it before it hits the news media.
