| THANK YOU Bob. Went I used your link, I realized that "secedit" command requires a space before the slash (in all cases). When I finally entered it right, it actually responded and fixed my problem! I had gone through about 5 phone calls before I finally got to tech "support". I was on hold for 40 minutes with tech "support" and during that time I was able to run this fix, reinstall successfully, plus reload my old money files. | I had the exact same problem using XP Pro. I tried everything I could find on the Internet, and nothing work, until I found the following directions - the KEY for me was to "cut and paste" the command from the kb article and paste it in the command prompt. I was worried about all the warnings about returning the registry to deafaults (because i have no idea what that means) but everything is working fine, including the Money Plus 2008: "If you have windows xp home then you need to call the money technical support so they can transfer you to the windows department, you need to call them first so they can create a service request for you so yo can use it with windows, otherwise you will be charge if you call the windows technical support, if you got windows xp pro, you need to run the secedit command, kb# 313222 at www.support.microsoft.com and copy and paste the command from the kb article and paste it in the command prompt, then install the moeny program." | I did the secedit fix and got money to install. Unfortunately, it seemed to corrupt one of my limited user accounts (my main account where I do everything). After running secedit I got a log file. Within the log file is a section that says "Configure Group Membership..." Beneath that it says remove ComputerName\Username for my limited account. My data is still there and the account shows up when I do a ne t user in the cmd window, but I can not log into it (i.e., account does not show up at login screen anymore). Help would be appreciated. | Hi, The article ref'd in your link provided the solution that finally worked for me -> resetting the security settings back to the default settings. The same answer is also listed in this knowledge base article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313222/ [See "Method 6" - I tried method 5 first as it suggests, but that alone did not work] Reboot and install Money. I also deleted the original C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money Plus folders and files before the reinstall, but don't know that was really necessary. | I have tried this with both UAC enabled and disabled and get the same results. I have been able to successfully install the Money 2006 trial (its unable to download account info b/c it's expired), but have not had the same luck with Money 2008. I always receive the unable to install Money because some of the components needed to run where not installed. Pretty frustrating, because you would expect this to work smoothly on Vista. | Setup was unable to install some of the components needed to run Money http://money.mvps.org/faq/article/483.aspx This may or may not solve the problem with XP. I did experience a registry permission problem several years ago with Windows Update on XP. I have not experienced a similar problem with Vista since I installed it last March. In fact, I would be surprised if this could even be a problem with Vista, due to UAC Registry Virtualization that would perform redirection (assuming UAC is turned on). I did perform a clean install rather than an upgrade, however. | I'm having the same issue as Keith mentioned above. I'm trying to install Money Plus trial on Windows Vista Home Premium. This post is really the first mention of some one having problems with Money 2008 and Vista. I have also tried the solutions in the thread and none have worked. Does Money require ..NET 2 or any other Microsoft components to run? It's strange that I can not easily get this software installed and running on Vista. Thanks. If they are in ProgramFiles, Vista will create an impermanent copy of the file for the user to use, unless the user explicitly right-clicks at launch and choose RunAsAdministrator that time. Check that the SSL2 protocol is enabled. That checkbox is in IE Tools-> InternetOptions-> Advanced. Install Money from the Money Plus by browsing to the setup file. Right-click that file, and choose RunAsAdministrator. After install, right-click the Money icon and choose RunAsAdministrator to let potential updates happen. Reboot the computer. You should not have to run as Administrator normally. If that does not work, create a new user and try the install as that user.
