I've had no problems using Money 2001 on Vista. I did however install it in
a directory that I created, not the default one. I assume that the default
one in "programs files" would be inside the Vista protected area

Default RE: money 2001

Surprisingly enough, getting MS Money 01 to work on Vista Premium is pretty
kewl. I wonder how many successful number of launches, data entry, and
backups where performed prior to this issue occurring. That said, even before
tinkering around with it, I would located that back up file and import on
another know good MS Money 2001.

After all that, I would look into the system processes running, event viewer
logs, hmm don't really know if Money has log files generated within the
Programs Folder; while there check the original exe file and launch it from
there and check it's security settings. I wonder if possibly the antivirus &
antispyware logs showed any relevant false positives. Last but not least,
check the security settings at the folder level (more than likely need to be
running in admin priv.) and I would try running it from another profile
(w/admin. privs. off course).

I do have an opportunity to try this on my laptop, and it would be a dual
boot system for reasons as such. However, based on my experiences working
with Vista Ultimate, I've had some issues with various applications.

Default money 2001

I have been using Money 2001 successfully for 7 years. No problems. I buy a
new computer with Visa Premium, and install 2001 on it. Again, no problems
installing it or setting it up. After 2-3 mths with no problems, now all of a
sudden I can't even access the program. Clicking on the icon or .exe just
gives me a brief "thinking" cursor and then nothing. I really don't want to
have to buy a newer version of something if this one works fine. Repairing
and reinstalling didn't change anything.

Can anyone help or have any ideas?

Thanks.
