| You are aware of categories? Have you ever noticed categories like Taxes : Federal Income Tax? Taxes is the "Category", "Federal Income Tax" is the "Subcategory". In the case of a Transfer (in Advanced Register as Cal noted), "Transfer" is the "Category" (they actually call it a "Special Category" since all of the other Categories are either Income or Expense and "Transfer" in neither) and the Subcategory is the name of the Account you are transferring to or from. E.g., "Transfer : Discovercard" or "Transfer : Savings". I setTools-> Settings-> CategorySettings-> ChooseCategoriesAndSubcategoriesFromSeparateLists If you don't set that, just choose the account you are transferring to/from. Dick had a different take on your question, and his might have been more to the point. I was assuming you had an account in the same Money file that represented the asset/debt of your friend. - quote - > "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: > > In microsoft.public.money, Sumeet wrote: > > > > I have Microsoft Money Plus Deluxe. Do I need to create a cash account or something? Thks that way. Tools-> Settings-> AccountSettings(global)-> DisplayAllAccountsInTheAdvancedRegister will do that for all accounts. Then for the Category, go to the drop-down list near the bottom under SPECIAL, choose Transfer as the category, and the other account as the subcategory. |

| There are many ways. You could create a Loan Account if you expect regular payments. You'd have to fake out the Transfer into the loan, but there are ways. You could use some expense category and then a negative offset (I call min Miscellaneous : Deposit / Credit) for the repayments. (This would show up as Expense and negative Expense--there really is no issue doing this.) You could create an Asset Account to represent the receivable, Transfer in and then back out. To name a few. | I have Microsoft Money Plus Deluxe. Can someone please explain to me How do I handle the following case. My friend needs money so I transfer Amt X from my account to his. Then when he is ready to pay me back he transfers the Amt X to my account. What categories should I use so that these dont show up as expense or Income. Do I need to create a cash account or something? Thks |
