Keep one or more copies of that file before proceeding. If Money at least recognizes it as a Money file, then try salv.exe. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902466 If not, perhaps the recovery messed up the first few characters. The file should start with bytes with these hex values: 00 01 00 00 4D 53 49 53 41. If you don't know how to use a hex/binary editor, you may know somebody who does. You could try contacting support.microsoft.com/money/ and clicking Contacts. See if they have an idea for you. I am not saying it is likely you will recover. :-( It is still worth a long-shot try IMO. |

| I had to use floppies since I lost the data from hard drive. The first floppy is the one corrupted so I can't really get anywhere. I recovered the file from harddrive using some tools however, MS Money doesn;t like the file. I used the recovery tool of Money and it said it successfully recovered the file. Even then, I can't open it in Money. Seem like I am really stuck here. I would copy each file from the backup floppies to the same directory/folder. This will give you an extra backup and will separate any problems of reading the floppy media from some other potential problem. This is not the common way, and it is not usually necessary. But especially if it is my only backup, I would consider the copy to hard disk step. The files will be named *d1.mbf, and *d2.mbf. In WE, double-click the *d1.mbf file. That should launch Money and start the restore. When Money prompts for the next diskette, click OK. If your floppies were read successfully, you will be able to restore. If not, I hold little hope. What about the hard drive you were using? If successful, you will have a chance to change the location or filename for where the restored data will go. If this is a different computer, it is especially good to browse to a location. The old location may not even exist. ================================================== ====== Here is the process I would have suggested originally: First, write-protect both floppies with the little slider. Do not consider solutions that want to make modifications directly to the bad diskette. I would copy each file from the backup floppies to the same directory/folder. This will give you an extra backup of the good floppy separate any problems of reading the floppy media from some other potential problem. The files will be named *d1.mbf, *d2.mbf. Presumably you will fail when you try to copy the *d2.mbf file. First, write-protect both floppies with the little slider. Here are two search terms that could have found a service or a different program: diskette.recovery and also floppy+recovery.service. |

| I am trying to restore backup from my two floppies. However, one floppy has a bad track so I used a commercial software to extract the file. Now, Microsoft Money is complaining that it is a bad/corrupted file. The backup files have extension .mbf. Does anyone know if there is any way to recover these backup files? Thanks for your help |
