| Just wanted to get back to you after seeing if your advice worked. It did! The backup folder listed was from my Windows XP system. I changed the folder to the Vista location. I set the program to maintain 5 backups, and it has been doing that ever since. Thanks. | Thank you. I suspected the problem was Vista-related. I will try that. "Andrew" wrote: - quote - > I had this problem too using Money 2007 Deluxe on Vista Home Premium. | I had this problem too using Money 2007 Deluxe on Vista Home Premium. I think it happened as a side effect of upgrading to Vista. I noticed the backup settings still specified the backup path using the XP folder structure, e.g.: "C:\Documents and Settings\Andrew\My Documents\" even though the Vista folder structure is actually "C:\Users\Andrew\Documents\". Apparently the folder redirection in Vista works well enough that Money can create the new backup file but not delete the old backup file. Once I switched the backup path to the Vista folder structure, Money properly deleted the oldest backup file. Note: I don't know if Money will properly delete extra backups prior to making this change. I had already deleted all the backups before changing the path. -Andrew "david_at_houston" wrote: - quote - > "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: > > In microsoft.public.money, david_at_houston wrote: > > > > > > > > "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: > > > > > > In microsoft.public.money, david_at_houston wrote: > > > > > > > > Money is supposed to automatically delete old backups. I have set my program to those settings. I also deleted all old 17.0.150.727. I should also have mentioned that I am using Vista Home Premium. |

I > have it set to automatically backup to both my hard drive and a flash drive. > Should I make a change? > Thanks for your quick reply. is your version when you do Help-> About? What Money will do if you choose N backups, is to back up to the specified media, and then if there are more than N backups with the same name pattern, to delete the (N+1)th entry. So if N is 4, and there were 4 existing backups, backup would add a new one, and then delete the 5th oldest. If N is 4 and there are already 5 backups, there will still be 5 after backup. Backup adds one, and then deletes up to one file. Be sure that you don't already have too many matching backups before setting the amount. ------------------------------------ In Money Plus: Tools-> Settings-> BackupSettings I suggest checking x Automatically backup my Money file every time I close Money Save in [a place on your hard drive ] x Ask me before backing up each time* x Compress Backup Files Keep only the _20_most recent backup files [adjust to taste] x Perform scheduled backups every _14_ days Save in [a USB flash drive location] x Ask me before backing up each time* x Compress Backup Files Keep only the _2_most recent backup files [adjust to taste, Then periodically, perhaps once per month or more, copy your latest backup (uniquely named by Money) to a CDR. With XP, this can be a copy and paste operation. Otherwise use the burning software that came with your CDR drive. I strongly suggest use of a USB Flash drive rather than floppies. They are bigger, so you don't have to swap media to back up. Plus they are much more reliable (but not failure-proof). * The reason I have Money ask me, is that I don't want to back up each time I exit. If I went into Money 5 times in a day, I would not want to back up 5 times, nor would I want to delete 5 other backup files. You will be given the choice to BackUpNow or to Postpone. |

| Money is supposed to automatically delete old backups. However, mine keeps adding new backups without deleting the old ones. I have entered various numbers of "to save" backups in the drop down box, with no luck. |
