| I got a new computer with Vista. My old computer has XP and I used "My Money 2004". I installed "My Money 2001" on my new computer (Couldn't find my 04 disc) and my password is not working to open it. What can I do to open it? | I am seeing the same issue with Money 2004. However, this fix doesn't seem to work. I have tried disabling my firewall first but no luck. I can open the sample.mny. When opening my own mny files, it tries to update and then crashes. | I'd created a test.mny already, and it didn't work. I tried to open the sample.mny and update again didn't work. However, my brain finally clicked on and I checked Kaspersky. It seems I'd clicked "block" rather than "allow" to one of the MS sites by mistake. I deleted the block and, bingo, instant update. Thanx for giving me something else to try that finally woke me up! | You need to update the M05 to the last M05 service patch. See http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=177. You should be able to do an Internet Update from inside Money--open the Sample file or something to get it started. It should get the update. But you may network/firewall issues or something. We'll have to get a better diagnosis than "nothing seems to happen". Copy sample.mny file to your Documents folder in Vista. In Windows Explorer with Vista, right-click that file and choose RunAsAdministrator. With XP, just Run. It will do an update. Close Money. With Vista, reboot the computer. Then open Money and check that Help-> About... says you then have version 14.0.120.1105. Make sure your .mny and .mbf files are in your Documents folder. Then you should be able to File-> Open or Restore your existing files. |

| My computer crashed last week while money wasn't running. I've reinstalled M2005 and am trying to open my current.mny. First it tells me it wants to upgrade it to 2005 and then it tells me it can't open the file. I've run the update and nothing seems to happen. Current version is: 14.1.120.728. Why can't it either open the mny file or the backup it creates everytime on exit and how do i fix it? |
