| It appears I've found the problem, and it does indeed relate to where the data file is stored. This would seem to apply to anyone running a vm (IE: MAC USERS) and not keeping the main data file somewhere in the Windows directory. As mentioned, I am running Money Plus Deluxe (Trial) on WinXP through VMware Fusion on Mac OS X 10.5.1 and was keeping the data file on the Mac side of the equation, vice in the Windows 'My Documents' folder for example. While I did not have any trouble with this arrangement using MD04, this version of Money apparently does not like it. (Then again, it could be Fusion related, as I was previously using Parallels as the vm with 04... I think. In any event, after much trial and error experimenting with the so called "Nuke the Bills", quick repairs, and level 2 repairs and associated program crashes, simply moving the data file to the windows directory thus far has rectified the problem. Account updates/synchronization is fast and smooth as per previous experiences. It is noted that backup files can still be maintained on the Mac side. This is a good thing. Case in point: save yourself some time and always try the easier solution first. In this instance, simpler was better. | For the record: Issue: You experience a page fault when downloading transactions directly from your bank after upgrading from MSMoney 2005 to MSMoney Plus. Resolution: Back up your data file to ensure that you can undo any unexpected results. Perform the "nuke the bills" procedure. You will have to reenter your scheduled transactions, but the page fault issue should not recur. This description omits any editorializing about the cause of the issue, about which I concede that I was probably full of it. Wouldn't be the first time. | I don't have M05--never had it for long as I sent mine back on the 30DMBG--but I think those five choices are what _Advanced Bills_ offered in M05 and date back to when M02 redesigned the interface from one where you created a transaction just like any other with all the freedoms thereto and the M02 -> M04 Bills/M05 -> M+ Advanced Bills interface that is much more restrictive. But I'm not wanting to be argumentative, there was just an assertion somewhere way earlier in this thread that seemed somehow crucial to the discussion that I thought might be misleading for those who tumble upon it. | I neglected to mention that there IS a difference between '05 (and earlier) and Plus. When you click on the "New" button in "Bills summary," the menu choices are "Bill, Deposit, Transfer, Paycheck, Investment Purchase." This is definitely different, although, unfortunately, I no longer have a copy of '05 running to look at, so I can't describe exactly how. | Dick -- You're correct that the UI for scheduling transactions changed. That's really all I know about. However, I inferred from my experience after upgrading from '05 to Plus that something had changed behind the scenes as well. I had been downloading transactions from my bank's website into MS Money for more years than I want to count. I never had a problem. The only program-generated (as opposed to user error) problem I have ever experienced with MS Money, even though I have rarely upgraded more frequently than every two or three years, was the page fault after downloading transactions into Plus. I researched the issue in this NG, didn't find anything that described my exact problem, noticed the UI change, decided to nuke the bills, and was successful. I might have made an unwarranted assumption, but I don't think so. Money '05 users who upgrade to Plus, and who download transactions directly from their bank, experience a page fault upon doing so for the first time after upgrading. Nuking the bills fixes the problem. There was a UI change in the way scheduled transactions are entered between the two versions. Ergo, those events are related in some way. That was my thought process, anyway. It doesn't appear to be a common issue, so I don't actually know for sure. | I don't know if I saw this the first time around, but it makes an assertion about scheduled transactions handling pre-Money 2006 that I do not think is true. You have been able to schedule Transfers as far back as you could schedule anything. The UI for doing so changed, annoyingly so, with M02. M06 didn't change anything in this regard, IIRC. - quote - > "LT" <spamyou[at]nospam.net> wrote in message > news:XRj3j.3832$6r6.597[at]newsfe23.lga... > > I believe the problem is caused by the > > difference in the way scheduled bills are handled -- 2005 & earlier > > allowed > > only payments and deposits to be scheduled. | I wouldn't say it was the same issue, as I and the OP I was replying to both had page faults after downloading transactions. From your description of the problem, that doesn't appear to be the case with you. However, "nuke the bills" might be a reasonable troubleshooting step for your issue. Make a copy of your data file first, in case it doesn't fix the problem and you want to try something else without having to reenter your scheduled transactions. | I found the following post (between the dashed lines). Could this be my problem? ---------------------------- Try this first. I had the same problem upgrading from Money 2005 to Money Plus. Everything worked fine, except for the fault when downloading transactions from my bank. The "nuke the bills" option fixed it. I believe the problem is caused by the difference in the way scheduled bills are handled -- 2005 & earlier allowed only payments and deposits to be scheduled. You could put credit card payments and so forth, but there wasn't a specific "transfer" option when creating a new scheduled transaction. After nuking the bills, I just added them back as they came in over the next month. It was pretty painless, and transaction matching is much improved over previous versions. | Good morning, I'm curious if any other users are exeriencing the same issue as I: After retrieving account updates, the same are not visible in the account register although there is indication that line item updates have been downloaded as per the account list. The update process is not always fluid either, but I can live with that at the moment. The concern at hand is these updates are not viewable until I do one or both of the following: 1) Close and reopen Money 2) Conduct a quick repair 3) And sometimes I must close and reopen again after conducting the file repair. I've cleaned out the cache a few times to no avail. This issue is repeatable as I have not once been able to retrieve account updates and have them immediately visible in each account register. Any suggestions please? On a side note, the overall speed of the update process seems to be longer as compared to Money Deluxe 2004. Do other users notice the same? Running Money Plus Deluxe (Trial) on WinXP. WinXP is installed on VMware Fusion on Mac OS X 10.5.1. The money data file is parked outside the vm container (ie: not in the Windows "My Documents" folder.) I don't think the latter should be an issue as I had no problems whatsoever when running MD04. Thank you. John |
