Default Re: Money Plus Premium Activation Disaster on Vista (Again)

I installed and finally activated Money Plus with Administrative rights. Had
similar activation problems as Disgruntled Money USer where the program
failed to activate. Despite following explicit instructions from Microsoft
Technical support (and yours) I am still unable to run this in a user
account; I must Run As Adminstrator. I should not have stated that I can't
update, the program actually did update on restart. I have however had
similar activation and update problems with other 3rd party programs which
may be related to Vista security settings.

My money files are in my own user account, in Documents, and the file
permission are appropriate. Strangely, permissions for me to use the actual
program in my user account are for full control, just like my Administrator
account but I still must Run As Adminstrator to use it.

On one hand I'm really frustrated that Microsoft can't explain what's going
on, but on the other hand I'm just glad I finally got this activated and can
run it, just with admin rights. My problem is sufficiently solved, but I just
wanted join in and let you know - this is a problem I also experienced.
Sorry, I may have posted in the wrong thread though.

What do you mean by update?

Make sure your Money file and backups are not in your Program Files
folder.

What do you mean by "update"Vista install Money Plus.

Be sure that your Money and backup files are moved to a spot that
you will have full privileges to, such as within the user's
Documents folder. If they are in ProgramFiles, Vista will create
an impermanent copy of the file for the user to use, unless the
user explicitly right-clicks at launch and choose
RunAsAdministrator that time.

Check that the SSL2 protocol is enabled. That checkbox is in IE
Tools-> InternetOptions-> Advanced.

Install Money from the Money Plus by browsing to the setup file.
Right-click that file, and choose RunAsAdministrator.

After install, right-click the Money icon and choose
RunAsAdministrator to let potential updates happen. Reboot the
computer. You should not have to run as Administrator normally.

I spoke with Microsoft Technical Support with no luck. I turned off
firewalls, adjusted security settings, reinstalled, checked file and program
permissions and I was still unable to activate. The bottom line is this: I
can only activate, update and install as an administrator. It is a pain, but
it's better than hours of frustration trying to figure out what else to do.
Why doesn't Microsoft tell us this upfront to save us the frustration.

Nothing worked. The activation screen just does not do anything: I press
activate but still nothing happens.

I followed the advice from this forum

http://www.talkaboutsoftware.com/gro...es/206018.html

and turned off DEP completely but that did not work at all.

I'm totally disapointed.

That did not work. Obviously the operating system does not give the
activation app the permission to run properly. Unfortunately there is no
logging in the app (sloppy coding) so I'll never know.

Thankfully I have an old XP desktop so I'm not out but needless to say I'm
disappointed but I'm not the olny one in this predicament

Right-click the Money launch icon, and choose RunAsAdministrator. If
that does not do it, try booting into safe mode with networking, ,
and try again. I have not tried it, but it seems worth a try. Once
booted, still use RunAsAdministrator.

Default Money Plus Premium Activation Disaster on Vista (Again)

I was happily using Money 2007 on my Vista Business laptop and with my
subscription to onlione services running out I decided to upgrade to the
2008 version. What a mistake that turn out to be!

In order to activate Money launches an activation application. Curiously the
name of the app and the name of the executable file differ - the app is coded
to be called activate_TMP.exe ,while the name of the executable on the file
system is activate.exe. In addition the word "Customer" is misspelled as
"Cutomer" on the screen which leads me to believe that we have a case of
sloppy coding here.

Anyway, the activation app does not work on my vista machine. I can click
the activate button but the app is not doing anything (it works fine on the
XP machine so it must be VISTA issue). Called customer service - naturally
everyone was clueless. I read on this group about turning off DEP for the
money and activate programs to fix the issue but that only made the thing
worse: the activate app was crashing with this lovely message:

"Faulting application activate_TMP.EXE, version 17.0.125.709, time stamp
0x46920bf1, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x00000000,
exception code 0xc0000096, fault offset 0x008a3aa8, process id 0x1c8,
application start time 0x01c82de3bac729b3."

So after undoing the the DEP settings I called the digital river to get
manual key ovverride - that did not work either (I entered the manual key but
the screen just refreshed.)

The activate.exe file DOES NOT work under my VISTA business laptop (which
came preinstalled on my dell laptop).

Anyone has any ideas?
