| I've set up two Cash accounts in Money 2002 named "Cash - Russell's wallet" and "Cash - (wife's name) wallet"; however, these show in the "Pick an account to use" list under the Bank Accounts section. When withdrawing cash from a Bank account (whether over the counter in a bank or from an ATM), I use a Transfer transaction in Money 2002 to debit From the bank account and credit To the cash-wallet account. Since cash taken from a bank physically goes into my wallet, this make perfect sense for me; then I can track individual expenses as a Spend or Receive in my wallet account and balance it whenever I want using the "Update ending balance" function. You can set up as many cash accounts as you feel needed for yourself or your operations (home business). -- Russell "Dick Watson" <littlegreengecko[at]mindspring.com> wrote in message news:OlTq2PufDHA.576[at]tk2msftngp13.phx.gbl... - quote - > I reconcile that account every now and then to the cash I have in my pocket. > Almost always I have less cash than Money thinks. | I reconcile that account every now and then to the cash I have in my pocket. Almost always I have less cash than Money thinks. I expense the difference against Miscellaneous:[no subcat]. If you don't reconcile it, all of the spending you don't record gets lost forever. See http://www.bollar.org/msmoney/#Q93 for repetition/more insight. | When withdrawing the cash, make it a transfer to a 'cash' account that you set up. Then, track the individual purchases in that account. It's a bit easier than doing this in the cash withdrawal with a split, as you'd have to re-edit the transaction multiple times as you spend the money. -- Glyn Simpson, Microsoft MVP - Money Check http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=fh;EN-GB;mny for UK tips and fixes for MS Money. | What would be the best way to track the cash withdrawn from ATM's. would it be to set up a cash account and transfer the funds? I am attempting to track the "cash" that goes into food, household expenses and "cash" that isa spent on fun stuff - Currently I have been spliting up the allocation amounts - but thought there must be a better way? any thoughts? |
