| Actually, I just want to get the problem solved anyway possible. I have a hunch that the problem discussed here may be the same as what I have. I am thinking these on-line brokers don't put too much energy into coming up with unique implementations for downloading transactions into Money. I'll start a separate thread, but I am keeping an eye on this one. If anyone has run across a solution, I would still like to hear about it. |

| Mine is similar but stranger. I get ETF transactions fine from TD Ameritrade, but not mutual fund transactions. I also get the account balance update saying that, of course, my Money Plus balance doesn't match that of the brokerage. I thought the problem might be that I was running Money 2006, so I updated to the 2008 Money Plus but the problem remains. I figure the problem was with TD Ameritrade because everything seemed to work fine until they switched over to the new website from TD Waterhouse (after the buyout.) If anyone has found a solution, I would appreciate hearing it. Thanks. |

| This sounds very similar to the same symptons that I am seeing. I do not do many transactions from my Scottrade account and therefore is very much less annoying. Did you turn on the logging function on a download, I would think this would be helpful to Microsoft to figure out the problem. Also, out of curiosity did you look at the balance on your Scottrade account in the Tools\internet update\read call summary messages\view download statements. In my case the bank balance is about 3 times the local balance and the local balance is correct. | OK, here's what I found out... If I create a brand new Money File and add each account one by one, every account will initially download all transactions available and continue to download new transactions for a few weeks. But after a few weeks, some accounts will start to ignore transactions. If I delete the account, create a new Money File, and then re-add the problematic account from scratch, bingo... all transactions show up (including the ones that were ignored in the previous Money File) and continue to show up for a few weeks before they disappear again. For example, I had several trades yesterday, but instead of transactions coming through like normal, it just records a new position and adds the following entry: MSFT - Add Shares - 1000 But it should show up as a transaction: MSFT - Buy - 1000 shares - $25/sh - $9.99 commish To continue the illustration, if I create a new money file and add this account, the above transaction shows up just fine. So I have to manually change it, and considering that I make between 1000-1500 trades in a year, it gets tiresome. All this to say that MS Money is definitely ignoring transactions. I suppose I ought to call someone there at Microsoft to get some Tech Support. Maybe they could guide me to some setting that I can change to fix this. | I do not have much activity in my Scott Account. I only moved a small amount of money from Schwab to see if I like them (Schwab has been giving me some issues). I have seen that I can download the actual file and view it but only did that after after my account was already updated. I have not had a transaction in Scottrade since I found out about the capability. I know that Scottrade will not download interest credits, deposits etc. As far as your problem with downloads, 07 should download transactions with no problem. I would suggest you look into the logging that Carl suggested. Another thing that I would try is to create a brand new file (not just account) and then try to download and see what happens. | Any luck with this Neil? I have brokerage accounts at several different places. 2 of them download transactions successfully, and the rest of them only download the positions, just as you were describing in your original post. I've downloaded my first round of logs (Thanks Cal!), but do not have a transaction during that time, so I'll have to wait until I have a new one to see if Money is ignoring it, or if the Brokerage is giving me incomplete data. My gut says that Money is ignoring it, because all of my accounts at all brokerages were working just fine when I was using the trial version of '08 Deluxe. I mistakenly bought '07 Deluxe from Amazon, and that's when the problems began. Did you find a fix that allows your accounts to automatically download the proper transactions/positions now? |

| Thanks for the lead, it sounds like it would solve the blame game as to who is wrong. The next time I have a transaction I will give it a try. I don't use Scottrade myself.> the transaction would show up if I use a new file. OK. You are downloading fine, but the transactions are not being brought into Money. So the question is, are the transactions being sent in the OFX file but ignored by Money, or are the transactions not in the OFX file. This can be complex, and I don't know how deep you want to get into it. To distinguish which is the case, you want to get an OFX file that should have the info. This is called logging. If you want to be more sure that there is a chance that there should be transactions in your file, then you could File-> Restore an older backup-- not to the default filename, but to a new filename for testing. Open Money to the file you want to download into. Enable Logging. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911941 tells how to capture an OFX log file. You may get two *RS.txt files in the process. You want the later, and probably bigger, one. To view that file, the method will If the file starts with "?xml version" then it is OFX 2.x. You could copy the file to "test.xml" and open that with IE6 or IE7. That would format things. If it starts with "OFXHEADER:100" it is OFX 1.x. You can open it with a text editor. If it does not have newline characters, then it is even harder to work with. Let us know which one is being used. Anyway, if you have <BUYMF> , <BUYSTOCK> , <SELLMF> , or <SELLSTOCKrecords, then there are transactions in that file. So why would Money not recognize transactions that are in there? In the OFX specs, there is a <FITID> (Financial Institution Transaction ID) for each transaction. If that same transactions is sent later, it is required to have the same <FITID> . Money remembers those, and it knows to ignore the transaction because it has already been processed. On rare occasion, an FI will re-use an <FITID> for a different transaction. That is an error, but it could explain what you see. Now to see if these are being duplicated would be tricky. You would have to have the <FITID> s from a new file that worked. Then wait until there is a new transaction to download, and check to see if the <FITID> is not a duplicate of ones used in the successful download. It seems unlikely that is the problem. Otherwise, others, including Jeff M, would have probably run into that problem. So, to recap, collect logs. Figure out if there are transactions in there. Then proceed accordingly. OK. Here is another test to use in your test files. Rename a *RS.ofx log to *.ofx and File-> Import the file. That could be informative too. - quote - > "Jeff M" wrote: > > On Nov 8, 10:24 pm, neil154 <neil...[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: > > > I just started using Scottrade and I am having problems with downloading > > > transactions. | Thanks for the response. I have waited and it did not help. As I mentioned the transaction would show up if I use a new file. If this is the case, wait one day and see if the transaction downloads. For now, when it asks you if you want to update your account, click "no". The other negative with Scottrade is that while it will download share transactions, it will not download margin interest or credit interest transactions. So those get entered manually once per month. Jeff |

| I just started using Scottrade and I am having problems with downloading transactions. It seems that the position downloads fine but the actual transaction will not download. For example if I buy 100 share of abc whenI do an update, no transactions will download but it shows "1 position" in the review column and when I look at the positions it will show all of the stock in the account including ABC but it will then say the money file shows 0 shares and Scott shows 100 shares do you want to update your account. If I say yes it add the share (does not include commission or a cost basis). Anyone else using Scottrade? I would appreciate it if you would let me know if everything is working fine with downloads or you are having problems. I have done repairs and deleted my temp files already. If I start a brand new account it works fine for all the transactions but when I have another transaction the next day, it gives me the same problem. |
