Note it may work for a few previous editions.

Money Plus Instructions:
* Banking, Account Tools, Categories and Payees
* View on left pane, Preferred Payee Name
* On the bottom "new"
* Select Payee (ex: Verizon Wireless) )
* Enter variation to rename it (VZWRLSS)

The memo on most bank companies have the memo typed out the same as it's
payee.

Money should see that date as "numbers or punctuation".

I don't know that that would be necessary, but it wouldn't hurt.

Thank you for your help. I understand most of it now, except that part
of the payee name (that comes in from my financial institution)
contains a date, such as "CHECK CRD PURCHASE 10/22 VZWRLSS". I
understand that I can tell Money to ignore the "CHECK CRD PURCHASE" if
I set it as an excluded name, but how do I get it to also ignore the
date part. I will want to set the Payee Name Variation as "VZWRLSS".?.

Not exactly, but you may be able accomplish the same thing in your
case.

What you want to do first is to set
Tools-> Settings-> OnlineServiceSettings-> ShowStandardizedPayeeNames.
That will cause you to match an existing payee that differ only by a
numbers or punctuation. Click MoreDetails to the right of the
setting for more information.

Next, click on GoToPayeeRulesManager. Excluded Payee Names
identifies words and phrases that should be ignored from the payee
field (e.g., check, deposit). Add each word or phrase that was
listed as a Payee Name Variation that you recorded. You would want
to add CHECK CRD PURCHASE, since you might have some CHECK CRD
PURCHASE that are not Verizon.

After that, change the Payee to Verizon, using the drop-down list
each time. Money should catch on.

Default Renaming Payee Descriptions

When I download the list of transactions from my financial
institution, Payees come in something like "CHECK CRD PURCHASE 10/22
VZWRLSS". I want them to appear in Microsoft Money as "Verizon
Wireless", and also get immediately assigned to the "Phone/Wireless"
category.

My financial institution wont allow me to change/rename the
transactions. Right now, I'm manually renaming the Payee field in MS
Money. Isn't there someway in Money to rename any new transaction that
comes in with the word *VZWLSS* in it as "Verizon Wireless", and then
automatically get it assigned to the "Phone/Wireless" category?

Thank you.
