| To be clear: M05.improved (.1105) opens M05 and earlier files. M05.original (.758) can't deal with M05.improved (.1105) files. This is like the M05 (.1105 or .758) can't open M06 or M07 or M+ files. The thing that was revealing even at the time is how quickly after they shipped M05.original they [pick one or both] (were able to)/(found it necessary to) release such a significant revision that the file formats weren't even the same and the M05.improved file format was needed. One might have suspected that they "made the date" with the first release ***knowing exactly how broken it was*** since they already had to have had the "improvements" deep in the development pipeline. It probably wasn't the highlight of any of their careers in software development. | None of those were it. I just figured it out before checking my mail. The CD installs Money 14.0.120.758 (It was in the 7xx). I found some mention on the net of updates and I ran an update up to the "enormous" number of 14.0.120.1105. Then it could open the file. That MS could make a fourth point release modification that means "older" files can't be opened is truly sad. If they are in a place like ProgramFiles, Vista will create an impermanent copy of the file for the user to use, unless the user explicitly right-clicks at launch and choose RunAsAdministrator that time. Check that the SSL2 protocol is enabled. That checkbox is in IE Tools-> InternetOptions-> Advanced. Install Money from the Money 2005 install disk by browsing to the setup.exe file. Right-click that file, and choose RunAsAdministrator. After install, right-click the Money icon and choose RunAsAdministrator to let updates happen. Do not have Money open an existing file at this point. Instead have Money open Sample.mny from the install folder, or have it create a new file without Passport/LiveID (select Decline during the process. Don't bother entering data-- click to start using Money before answering questions. Then reboot the computer. Check that the Money 2005 version is 14.0.*.1105. Only then open your existing Money 2005 file that is in your Documents folder. You should not have to run as Administrator for that. - quote - > Can anyone point me to a way to successfully more my Money to the new > computer? |

| I installed Money on the new machine and tried to: 1) Open the current.mny file 2) Restore from my backup.mbf 3) sign in using my valid Passport id (used to log into MS support to post this) none work: 1) Says it's not the right version, though it's the same software 2) Says it can't write the new current.mny as it doesn't have write permissions (it's my account and I'm PC's administrator 3) says the login isn't valid. Can anyone point me to a way to successfully more my Money to the new computer? |
