So, just to make sure we are talking about the same thing, confirm:> I have also double-checked them. The program just keeps adding an additional file > without deleting the previous one. You are using Money Plus. You are talking about the scheduled backup. You specified Keep only the _1_most recent backup files for the scheduled backup. You are not somehow renaming the files so Money cannot find the previous file. The files in question are filenames that start with a specified first part, have a Money-generated date+time next, and end with *d1.mbf. An easy way to count the backups from a command window before and after is to do dir e:*d1.mbf if, for example, the flash drive is your e: drive. |

| What operating system are you using? And what is the backup path? The reason I ask is that if you are using Vista you may be backing up to a location that does not have full permission. This might also happen if you are using an older version of Windows but not logged into Windows as an Admin user. -Mark "Will" <wlsnoops[at]remove.yahoo.com> wrote in message news:4720F4B1.E68FEF99[at]remove.yahoo.com... I am skeptical again that you actually tried what I suggested. Don't specify zero. I couldn't set it to zero if I tried. The options are from 1 to 99. It will not let you set it to zero. When you select 1, expect Money to write the new backup and delete the second-newest file. If there was only yesterday's backup already, then Money will write today's file and then delete yesterday's. Again, the settings that you suggested are identical to the ones I used from the start. I have also double-checked them. The program just keeps adding an additional file without deleting the previous one. |

It is my understanding that with Money Plus (the 2008 version) the problem of having to manually deleate old backups on the flash drive was corrected. Are you sure you are using Money Plus? Steve |

| Cal, That is exactly what I have done from the get-go. But I shouldn't have to continually manually delete files to accomplish this, should I? If I leave one backup on the flash drive, the next time I backup there will be two, then three, then four, etc. The program is not deleting the previous file and writing a new one. This should do what you are asking for:> However, as I stated earlier, Money does not overwrite or delete the previous > backup file. Also, I have the number set to zero. Manually delete all but one existing matching backup from the flash drive. For scheduled backups, change the "Keep only the __ most recent backup files" number to 1 within Money. When you next do a scheduled backup, expect there to be only the new one remaining. - quote - > I just don't want the > extra backup files on the HD. > Thanks again. > ...Will > Cal Learner-- MVP wrote: > > In microsoft.public.money, Will wrote: > > > ?I am using Money Plus Deluxe. | Thanks for the reply, Cal. However, as I stated earlier, Money does not overwrite or delete the previous backup file. Also, I have the number set to zero. I just don't want the extra backup files on the HD. Thanks again. ....Will Cal Learner-- MVP wrote: - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, Will wrote: > ?I am using Money Plus Deluxe. Setting the file to be compressed should help with space problems. Also, bigger drives have gotten cheaper. Having more than one vintage of backup is a good idea. |

| I am using Money Plus Deluxe. I backup my files to a flash drive after every use and even copy the files to a CD. I also have Money set to automatically backup to the harddrive when I shut the program down. My issue is this: Instead of overwriting the previous backup file, Money writes a new one. I have the setting to keep only one most recent backup but it won't allow me to set it to zero. Hence, everytime I backup, I have additional newer copy. All I want it to do is overwrite the previous backup. Maybe I'm confused by this, but I didn't have this issue with previous versions. Thanks. ....Will |
