| Well, sounds like a similar problem I had w/2004 Deluxe. Here is what I did with that issue since MSN was unable to resolve the issue after several phone calls. I also had a working internet connection which was working fine for every other program except the background banking in Money. But, hope it helps. ---OK, well I got it to work. I didn't do it very scientific, but did everything all at once that may be affecting it. I did what the techs were telling me, including clearing the Temp Internet Files, History, and all the cookies. I uninstalled MS Money 2004, including the System Pack, and then used Norton SystemWorks to further clean everything else, deleted the Windows Temp files, uninstalled ZoneAlarm, (and a couple of other unrelated items I was no longer using). After I deleted everything I figured I needed to, I used System Works OneButton Checkup to address any system issues with the registry. After that, I turned off the computer, the router and the cable modem. I disconnected the cable modem from the router and reconnected the cable modem directly to my PC. Turned everything on again and turned off the background programs, except for Norton, which it says I should turn off, but I didn't this time. Then, I re-installed the MS Money 2004. It loaded directly to the home Page. (I had turned off the Passport signin the last time I was in the program). I went into the File/Password Manager and re-entered by bank info to download my bank info, and that worked. I then took it to the next step, and entered my Passport info again, and it still worked. YES! I was happy. The next step was to reconnect the network connections and make sure I didn't have any problems connecting through the router. I shut down, reconnected everything with the router and it still worked. So, once again, I have got the answer quicker doing it myself than going thru Tech Support. | Bonnie - It's definitely not the financial institution. Money still works fine on my old machine, and the new install has the same symptoms with both banks I have on line accounts with. I had my virus checker turned off for the original install, but I turned off both my virus checker and my firewall for the reinstall and configuration, and then uninstalled and reinstalled to another drive. Now it prompts me for my authorization code, and won't accept the one from my original installation. It says it's already been used. Well, of course it has, but I'm retiring that machine and moving everything to my new machine. So, I did as the screen instructed, and called the bank for an authorization code. But they don't handle authorization codes, so they transferred me to a very nice man at Microsoft who listened to my problem and said he was transferring me to someone else who would be able to help me with that, and he wished me a nice day. The next person who came on the phone was a very nice lady who listened to my story and then asked me who I was calling, because she worked for the Lilac and Lace Flower shop. I considered calling back, but by this time I've got cauliflower ear from being on the phone through all these iterations of hold and explanation, so I went back to the computer. Well, Money through the bank offer was only $29 and change, so I thought what the heck, I'll just buy a new license. So, I clicked on Get Authorization Code and went to a web site where I put in my payment information, verified it, and got an error message saying that the system was unable to complete the transaction, please try again later. I'm obviously not having a very good Money day. I've always been pretty happy with Microsoft products and support, and I've always been pretty happy with my bank. Today, however, I'm thinking of changing banks and running down to Office Max and buying Quicken, or Quickbooks, or some other product. It really seems a little ridiculous that I could burn up a whole day just trying to install Money on a brand new XP machine and restore my backup. There's gotta be a better way. Maybe my ear will be healed up enough by tomorrow that I'll be back in the mood and will try again. | I know you said this was a new install, but try removing and reinstall to a new folder. Make sure you don't have anything else running when you install (antivirus, etc.). You may even want to do a selective or diagnostic startup (Start, Run, Msconfig). Another possibility is that it's a problem with the Financial Institution you are setting up for. Try another. Even if you don't have an account, at least see if it bombs or kicks back an error that your logon credentials are wrong. | Yes, it does the same thing with a new file. As soon as I try to set up on line services, when it tries to connect it crashes. - quote - > -----Original Message----- > How about trying it in a new Money file? | How about trying it in a new Money file? Does this do the same thing? | I'm installing Money 2003 on a new XP machine. If I restore from the backup, it appears to set everything up correctly (I get the correct balances), but Money crashes as soon as it trys to connect to my bank. So, I tried a clean install and setting up the account manually. That goes fine until I get to the part where I actually set up the on line service. I enter the user id and password (I've checked, and these are correct), click Next, then get a message box that says Call Progress. The next thing I get is an XP message saying that Microsoft Money has encountered a problem and needs to close, and gives me the option to submit an error report. There's nothing wrong with the internet connection - I can get to my bank web site from IE and by clicking the bank icon in Money itself with no problem, and log in. My internet connection is always on, so I'm not losing the connection. I can force an Internet Update and get the latest Money updates with no problem. What should I try next? Stephanie |
