| Cal Have managed to resolve the issue using the following steps which I located on the http://money.mvps.org/faq/article/204.aspx website; The next things to try are to check whether: Create a new administrator account on your system, and try running Money from that user, let the download happen and then switch back to the original account (you can delete this 'temporary' account if it works. You have got a valid TEMP environment variable (Control Panel-> System-> Advanced-> Environment Variables) - check it points to a 'real' location on your machine (i.e. the directory exists) Assuming you have more than 100MB hard disk space free, check you're not using an account with a quota on it (Open Windows Explorer, right click on the drive with the program installation on and then select the 'quota' tab (not present in all versions of Windows XP). Reset all of the Internet Explorer settings to their default. Follow the fix in FAQ Article 466 (SSL2 reset - even if you don't use Windows Vista) I am pretty sure it was setting up a new administrator account that solved it. Thanks for your help. | Cal Just another thought, is there a alternative way to apply the patch/update to my version of money, i.e. download from a site somewhere, or do you think it is likely if I was to purchase the same Money 2005 program from a shop today, that it would have the patch/update already applied in the software, being some two years since the update (would there be some way of telling from the external box/packaging by some code or other that the software included the patch??). | Thanks for the response Cal. I have tried opening the sample file as administrator and running the update as I have done previous but I get the same error message. Can I clarify with you if you are suggesting that I answer 'no' to the update question and simply leave the program open to see if it updates. Locate Sample.mny in the Money program files folder, and run that as> install it onto a new laptop running Vista Home Premium. Leave it open for a while, and closed it. Then reboot You want Money to update to 14.0.120.1105. Then you should be able to open your Money file that you have copied into your Documents folder. |

| Hi, I have previously used Money on XP and 2000 and have have just tried to install it onto a new laptop running Vista Home Premium. I do not know what version of Money I have, I beleive it may be Money 2005 Deluxe (Version 14.0.120.805, Australia/English). From what I can see this is the latest version available to purchase in Australia. As I have had problems before when re-installing Money and trying to open my old data file first (on previous machines using XP or 2000) I always do the following procedure when upgrading laptops: 1) Open Money and start a new file (I do not open old data file straight away) 2) Install Money update as requested 3) Change home screen to open in Account list 4) Re-open Money and open old data file and everything is normally OK, BUT NOT THIS TIME WITH VISTA!! I open Money and receive the following message; "An update is available for your Money software. Do you want to install the update now? To install now, click Yes. To postpone installation and get a reminder later, click No." I click 'yes' to run the update which ticks away up to 100% (all good) until the next message appears; "We were not able to complete the Money update. Please make sure you are still connected to the Internet and have at least 100MB of free hard disk space to perform this update. Then restart Money to retry this update." I have tried to do this at least half a dozen times with the same result. From other posts on this forum I have tried a number of other things, including; 1) Run Money as administrator from startup 2) Enable Use SSL 2.0 on IE Any help as always greatly appreciated.
