Default Re: Preferred stock prices updating as $0

Unfortunately it appears Microsoft has "fixed" this only by removing
the old symbols so they no longer work.

But no apparent progress on making the correct symbols work. So ALL
my preferreds are now updating as $0 if I enter a symbol for them.

Default Re: Preferred stock prices updating as $0

Checked again today, and there apparently has been no action yet by MS
to correct this problem.

Unfortunately I can't say I'm surprised. Microsoft dropped most
support for Money in Canada after 2000 - since then the "Canadian"
version has been a slightly modified version of the US basic version,
which doesn't work as well as the old Money 2000 Canadian Deluxe
(which is why I'm still using that ancient version).

The last few years there has apparently been no Canadian version AT
ALL!. The product is still listed on Microsoft Canada's web site, but
the links to vendors all end up at pages saying the product is either
no longer carried, or out of stock with no forseeable delivery date.

If Microsoft has decided to simply drop all support for Canada, I wish
they would just come out and say so, rather than maintain the pretense
that they support Canadian customers.

Unfortunately for Canadians, the only company which appears to still
be developing financial products for Canada is Intuit. I anticipate
getting an offer from them (as I do every year) to buy Canadian
Quicken along with Quicktax, and I expect this year I may take them up
on it.

The conversion will be a lot of work, but at some point it will be
inevitable, as sticking with an 8-year old product which Microsoft
seems to no longer intend to update or support seems a dead end.

---------------

PS: I've been reading the comments from US Money users about
Microsoft cutting off price and banking downloads on some versions of
Money to force users to upgrade. Not sure what Quicken does in the
US, but I've found that Intuit's stated policy in Canada is to provide
full technical support and upgrades for the most recent 3 versions,
and in addtion to support online banking for a minimum of 5 years from
the version date (i.e. Quicken 2007 users can download thru at least
2012).

Default Re: Preferred stock prices updating as $0

I have the same problem with Canadian preferreds showing the Last Price as
$0. I track about 30 Canadian preferreds. Back in August, the quotes worked
fine, but since then I've been getting $0. Periodically I will get a correct
value rather than $0, but this happens very infrequently and only with a few
of the preferreds. It doesn't make any difference whether I use the old or
new format for the stock symbols. I sent an email to the data provider for
the stock quotes and they checked their data feeds. The data provider says
they are sending out the correct values, and they say the problem is with
Microsoft Money. Any way I can get MS Money to address this problem?

Default Re: Preferred stock prices updating as $0

I had already blanked out the symbols so I didn't have to keep going
back in and deleting the $0s. It is a bit of a nuisance to have to
go in periodially and enter the values by hand., but not nearly as
much as having to continually erase the $0s.

The complete list I have that stopped updating correctly is as
follows. (Note it was about end Aug., not Sept. as my first note
incorrectly stated) Note all are on the Canadian TSX exchange, so
would be CA:

BCE Series R Pref Shs (BCE.PR.R)
Brookfield Asset Mgmt Class A Series 11 (BAM.PR.I)
Dividend 15 Split Pref II Shs (DF.PR.A)
Financial 15 Split Pref Shs (FTN.PR.A)
ROC Pref II Corp (RPA.PR.A)
Zarlink Semiconductor Pref (ZL.PR.A)

The following do not update correctly under their current symbol, but
an older form of symbol (which should have been discontinued) does
still work:

Great West Lifeco 4.8% Series E (current:GWO.PR.X old:GWO-X)
Power Financial 5.5% Class D (current:PWF.PR.E old:PWF-E)

Strangely, the 'old' symbols were also updating as $0s this afternoon,
but they were working again tonight (Oct. 17)! And the old symbol
for Dividend 15 Split above now suddently works again (DF-A)

Even more strangely its now after midnight (Oct. 18), and for a few
minutes PWF-E and DF-A were reporting $0 but GWO-X was working. But
then about 12:20am all 3 'old' symbols started reporting correct
values again!!!

These are all the preferreds I have, so I think its possible that no
preferreds on the TSX are working correctly (i.e. under their proper
current symbols)

The mutual fund that is not found at all as noted previously is
Dynamic DMP Resource Class (9152)
The symbol, if it was listed the same way as other Dynamic Funds,
would likely be DYN9152

Hope you can help with this. Thanks for your assistance.

Don

You might post the rest of the symbols for the securities with the
bad $0 prices. I wish there was some kind of sanity checking for
quotes by Money.

The workaround is to disable quote fetching in some versions or to
blank out the symbol, which works for any version.

Then delete the bad quotes, and enter any of those quotes that you
need by hand for now.

Default Preferred stock prices updating as $0

Starting about end of Sept, there has been an error in "update prices"
on a number of preferred stocks. These are all preferreds listed on
the Canadian TSX exchange. Instead of the last price, these
consistently are updated as $0, which of course completely distorts
the value of the portfolio

A couple of examples:
BCE Preferred Series R (CA:BCE.PR.R)
Power Financial 5.5% Class D (CA:PWF.PR.E)

Note also that if I go to MSN Money and look up these symbols, they
all report "no intraday chart available", although historical prices
are available. I suspect there is a connection with this behaviour.

Some of my preferreds do still work - these still use the older form
of symbol before the TSX updated them over the past year. For example
Great West Life Preferred Series E now is supposed to have the symbol
GWL.PR.X, but it still updates properly (and is found on MSN money)
under the old symbol GWL-X

Also, for a few years now there has also been one mutual fund in my
account that Money does not recognize:
Dynamic DMP Resource Class (fund number 9152)

Other Dynamic funds are listed in symbol lookup, but for some reason
this one fund has been omitted. Following the pattern of the other
Dynamci funds, the symbol should be DYN9152.

If any of the MVPs can help I would appreciate it.

Thanks

PS: I am still using Money 2000 Deluxe, as that is the last deluxe
version of Money released, and still works better for Canada than the
modified US version offered since.
