| As a follow-up to my last post, I believe I've found a workaround. I completed my paycheck entry using the investment share prices from my last paycheck entry (the entry "copies" as a template each time I type the payer's name). If I don't change the share prices, Money accepts the entry. Next I go into the investment account and manually update the buy transactions put there by my paycheck entry. This Money accepted without throwing an erroneous error message. I would still like to see an answer as to why this is happening so I don't have to follow this two step process from now on... | Hello, I'm getting the exact error described below in Money 2006 Deluxe running on WinXP Pro SP2. I'm entering an investment purchase as part of a split transaction on a paycheck entry. Has anyone else experienced this, and/or know of a solution? | Yeah, I thought it might be a fractional share thing due to rounding or something but it is exactly 110 shares (which is the amount of a previously deleted transaction) and only an addshares of that amount or more works... Have just decided to live with a 110 share (zero $) offset for the interim months as Money is simply confused and I have no other way to fix it... Did get the adjustment in for today removing the shares resulting in zero balance as of today however the intervening months will all be off by exactly the 110 share amount... Just don't know what else to do... Surprised to see that not many others have this issue and MS hasn't offered a better way to "fix it"... Thanks for the assistance and suggestions. Any other thoughts? Maybe 0.001 share would be enough if it is a fractional share problem. Maybe 1 would do it. Maybe you need a big one. Then make the transactions what you think they should be. Then set use the AccountSummary-> AccountUpdate to set the quantity to what they should be today. - quote - > Thx, D |

| Hello Cal - tried that and if the accounting period I wanted to make the change in was the current one that would work wonderfully. However, I'm trying to correct an error in a single monthly accounting period that is 12 accounting periods ago... As is, when I follow the prescribed process I get an entry dated today which doesn't help with the monthly reconcilliation 12 months ago... I also tried to change the date of the transaction back to the period in question (where it would bring the balance to zero as well) and get the same erroneous error message... I even tried to change the environment date (via the computer) to the end of the accounting period in question (i.e., setting the date of the computer back 12 months) and it wouldn't allow the change to be saved (just "dinged" at me when I tried to save the change and put the value right back to what it was)... Boy, this one is driving me nuts... Any other thoughts? Using the SellShort to work around this could have some problems. Change the TotalQuantity to 0. Expect Money to generate a RemoveShares. You should be able to then change that to a Sell. Let us know what you find out. |

| Using MS Money 2007 Deluxe on a Vista machine. I have a similar problem in that I'm receiving the same error message when attempting a Sell transaction in an investment account however the message is erroneous as there are exactly the correct amount of shares to sell all the way out to three decimal places and it won't cause the balance to ever be negative but will remove all shares. I've run all the reports showing all transactions before and after this one as well as current balance report at the date of this transaction... All later transactions balance between themselves and the balance shown (to three decimal places) is exactly what I'm trying to sell... Oddly, the amount I have to change this transaction to in order to get it to "work" isn't off by a fraction of a share, it is off by 110 shares (which corresponds to a previous transaction amount that was deleted a good bit earlier)... Saw this problem with another non-Money Market fund earlier where I was simply trying to sell the balance (yet again) but Money kept telling me I couldn't because the transaction would cause the balance to be negative in the future (even though that was untrue) so I used the Short Sell transaction instead of Sell and the balance became zero as expected and everything worked fine from there... However, although trying to do the exact same thing here, with this Money Market fund the Short Sell transaction type isn't available of course so now I don't have enough "trick Money" trick up my sleeve... Can someone please suggest a solution? -- Thanks, Don "Steven Wissler" wrote: - quote - > I'm trying to enter an investment transaction (Buy Investment) as part of a > split transaction on a Paycheck entry. > Getting the following erroneous error: > The changes you are making will cause the share balance for `CREF GROWTH` to > become negative at some point. | I'm trying to enter an investment transaction (Buy Investment) as part of a split transaction on a Paycheck entry. Getting the following erroneous error: The changes you are making will cause the share balance for `CREF GROWTH` to become negative at some point. Please cancel or revice the transation. The transaction is to buy an investment, how can this make it go to zero at some point? Extremely frustrated with microsoft... Steve |
