After he uninstalled it, Money was able to update quotes. He was then able
to reinstall Zone Alarm and Money could still update quotes.

I've heard of many more instances of problems like these due to Zone Alarm.

Of course, I've had it work through my dedicated hardware firewall sometimes
moments after having been in la-la land for more than an hour (with or
without clicking on Cancel) before timing out complaining that quotes could
not be downloaded. M03 and M04 do some very strange things when trying to
download quotes if there are any network or server problems (like a busy
server). In particular, the timeout behaviors are just plain crappy.

What firewall software and anti-virus software are you using?
Instead of simply turning them off, try removing/uninstalling them and then
see if Money can update. If so, then try reinstalling the
anti-virus/firewall software to see if it will still continue to work.

Does anyone else have this problem? It was OK yesterday. So far today I
have not been able to download the quotes. I have tried reinstalling Money
2004 and also my internet software. I have made sure all other programs
including antivirus and firewall software are turned off. Nothing helps.
The sequence is:

Internet Updates selected.
Updating Securities and News dialog box appears.
Some internet activity (maybe about 30 seconds worth on a 28.8K connection)
then none.
One hour goes by with no activity.
Cancel is selected. It says "Please wait while canceling."
A long time passes and the action does not cancel. I can't shut down Money
and finally have to terminate Money with the Windows Task Manager.

This problem is repeatable and is similar to how Money 2003 and Money 2002
sometimes performed (on other computers and operating systems).
