| Hi Cal I thought shortcuts in the Start menu inherited all the properties of the icon in Program Files. When I went to the latter I discovered the missing features and properties. Thanks for that. I can take if from there I am not impressed with upgrading to 2005 when your compatriots are moaning in the Newsgroup about 2007 and looking for 2008. I will upgrade when there is a good post Vista version available in the UK. The compatibility modes would be selected by browsing to msmoney.exe> solution for this program described in the KB article is not available to > me. I can live with this whilst I think about my upgrade options. Money 2008 > must be coming soon in your install folder and right clicking that file for choices. You reference http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931362/ . Did you find msmoney.exe and right-click? http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...f5f101033.mspx seems to discuss a different way. You might check http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929427. Money 2003 is not specifically referenced, and that Vista update has probably been applied anyway. The latest version in the UK is Microsoft Money 2005, which is just called Microsoft Money. microsoft.public.uk.money is a good source of info on that. |

| Hi Cal Thanks for your help which was very useful in a wider context. I plan to implement DEP on all my machines with exclusion lists as required, as it is hardware-supported. I examined the DEP settings on both of my machines. They were exactly the opposite of what would be expected. On the Windows Ultimate desktop DEP was turned on, Money was not on the excluded list. As I reported yesterday Money 2003 has always run perfectly on this machine On the troublesome laptop running Home Premium DEP was set to fun for Windows only. No progress with that excellent suggestion but it set me thinking. Microsoft must have tested it and if it was not supposed to run it would have been on the incompatibility check list when I upgraded. So I found KB article 931362 on troubleshooting programs with Vista. Going down their list of things to try:- 1. I don't have a compatibility mode option for Money 2003 2. I don't have an option to set it to run as administrator anywhere in the right click options or properties 3. I ensured the security settings were not an obstacle by giving 'users' full control 4. I found the solution on Step 3 in this article Disable Aero Glass. I closed all gadgets on my aero glass side bar, so that it disappeared and Money 2003 ran ok . As I don't have a compatibility tab for this program the more flexible solution for this program described in the KB article is not available to me. I can live with this whilst I think about my upgrade options. Money 2008 must be coming soon Roger Stenson "Cal Learner-- MVP" <via_newsgroup[at]please.tnx> wrote in message news:bbh4g3hti1f9nrfdhbdk0d9rcmhlnkdopd[at]4ax.com... - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, Roger Stenson wrote: > > I run this version perfectly satisfactorily in my Vista Ultimate > > desktop.with my normal log on. | Hi I run this version perfectly satisfactorily in my Vista Ultimate desktop.with my normal log on. No fiddling was required to get it to start. It worked perfectly out of the box, just as in XP Referring to emails on earlier versions in the Newsgroup, my data is in a Documents folder on the D Drive well away from Vista, though it is secured. In this machine SSL2 is not enabled I have a newish laptop running Windows Home Premium with a similar configuration for all my data on the D drive. I recently tried to open Money for the first time since installation using a copy of the Money file from my Vista Ultimate system. The product closes down immediately on starting. with no warning, no Vista looking for a solution etc - I have enabled SSL2. - I have reinstalled the product. - I have tried to open the blank Money installation file All to no effect. When I look at the advanced properties for the icon the "Run as Administrator" option is grayed out.in both machines. When I log on to the laptop as "The Administrator " Money 2003 runs ok I was able to set it to open the file in my personal user area. However following this, when I logged to my usual account, which of course has administrator privileges, nothing had changed from the above report In the laptop the only product I have troubles with is Money 2003. All the XP VB6 development tools and SQl run ok I would be grateful for a clue on what I am missing to get Money 2003 to run in my user account Roger Stenson |
