If you're happy with '04 and don't use online functionality within
Money (e.g., stock price or transaction downloads) then no, there's no
big risk in staying with '04. If you want to use any of the online
functionality, including importing transaction files from your bank
web site, then you have to upgrade to something else to get it. In
that case there's no reason (in my opinion) not to get the latest
release at a discount store for $25.

If you're not in a rush, wait until 2008 when tax software starts
showing up in office discount stores. There is invariably some kind of
bundled deal with tax software. Whether or not that is valuable is for
you to decide.

The reasons to NOT upgrade would be as stated in your post, you are "happy
with it".

The reasons TO upgrade (at some point) would be:

1) Newer version(s) have a new feature you are interested in having
2) Program no longer downloads financial information you need
3) for Money 2007, the user wishes to take advantage of the "Repair Money
File --> Remove All Bills Data" (aka 'Nuke the Bills') feature. Though named
in this manner, this feature primarily allows a "do over" in all your Bills
Summary section (planned withdrawlas and deposits) and doing so may provide
a significant increase in performance.

I did not upgrade from Money 2003 onward, because I did not see anything
worthwhile in an upgrade (per reason #1) and reason #2 only became important
for me a few months ago because stock and mutual fund data no longer would
update. I had bought Money 2007 and did not open the package until reading
about reason #3.

Reason #3 made the upgrade worthwile to me, though as a warning I add you
will need to spend 3-6 hours to re-enter bills data and / or budget data.

The upgrade cost + time spent was worth it for my situation to gain a more
stable, faster Money for my daily use of the program.

Default Which version to upgrate to

I currently have Money 2004 and am happy with it. I guess I should upgrade
at some point, but I don't really see any reason to upgrade.

Is there any big risk to staying on Money 2004?
