Actually that surprises me. I wonder if there is some firewall
software that is not telling Money that access is unavailable but
blocks the access.

I guess an awkward workaround is better than no workaround.

Cal,

That **WORKED**!! I was able to edit a transaction as soon as I
wanted to. No two-three minute delay before I could do anything.

Thanks.

In IE, select File-> WorkOffline to stop that access. I expect you to
find that the access you think is what slows you down is not what
slows you down.

The setting to not update quotes automatically is at Portfolio Manager\Change
Portfolio Settings (in the list in the left panel).

BUT... unchecking the box to "update prices every xxxx minutes" doesn't have
any effect. Money ignores what you told it and just goes on its merry way
getting quotes when you first open it.

I contacted Tech Support about this several months ago, and complained. I
don't know if they have changed the behavior in M08. Seems pretty ridiculous
(not to say confusing!) to imply you can control the timing of updates when in
fact you can't.

Thanks.

It's apparently updating "Quotes, News, and Exchange Rates". How do I
stop it from updating that -- where's the setting??

First, try
Tools-> Settings-> ProgramSettings-> (DisplayStartMoneyWithThisPageOpen:AccountList
to see if that makes Money open faster. It's easy, but it is
probably not the thing that is slowing you down.

It is likely that the File-> Repair-> RemoveAllBillsData that is only
available with Money 2007 and Money Plus would speed things up. You
could try downloading the Money Plus Deluxe trial to a different
comtputer to test that out. It would be possible to install to the
same computer. If you do, pay attention to not have the trial
uninstall your Money 2006. Also, your file associations would be
changed by the trial install. You could reinstall Money 2006 or
restore to an XP checkpoint to get those back if you decided not to
upgrade at this point.

Default Something happening in the background that slows me down??

I've got Microsoft Money 2006 Deluxe on top of Windows ME.

Every time I launch Microsoft Money and attempt to edit a transaction,
something is happening in the background that prevents me from editing
anything for a minute or two -- looks like Money might be
communicating with somebody/something. Once whatever is happening in
the background finishes, I'm fine after that. It's just that that
slowdown of 2 or 3 minutes is making me nuts.

I don't talk with my bank. I download the bank transactions to a file
-- that happens pretty fast.

When I launch Process Explorer and look at what Microsoft Money is
doing, there's a lot of activity. I don't know enough about the file
structure to be able to tell exactly what's happening.

Anyone got any ideas.

I don't think that I'm set up to check stock transactions. What else
could it be??

Thanks.
