If you have a Payee called Ajax Foods and you set the
Tools-> Settings-> OnlineServiceSettings-> ShowStandardizedPayeeNames
setting, I expect a future incoming transaction for Ajax Foods #13
to get recognized as Ajax Foods.

I expect if you combine Payees with Move, the transactions will be
modified to each reflect the combined Payee.

While working with Payees, also click on GoToPayeeRulesManager. Your
downloaded transactions may come with some generic term where the
Payee should be. Excluded Payee Names identifies words and phrases
that should be ignored from the payee field (e.g., check, deposit).

Thanks for your response. If I combine payees as you suggest will I lose the
transaction history?

Money learns the category based on the payee. You still need to
provide the payee if it does not download.

To reduce the number of existing payees, go to
Banking-> AccountTools-> Categories&Payees-> Payees ; select a
payee and use Move to combine payees. This is better in most cases
than Delete.

Tools-> Options/Settings-> OnlineServices-> ReplacePayeeNames...
enables replacement of payees with names you have used. I suggest
you select that option.

Banking-> AccountTools-> -> Categories&Payees-> Payees-> PreferredPayeeNames
shows how downloaded names are translated into Payees.

Default "Learned" Repeat Transactions

I was told a year or so ago that Money 2005 Standard Edition could "learn"
repetitive transactions and that it would only take a month or two. Now about
2 years later I am still having to edit transactions that I download from my
financial institution. Usually it is just the payee and category that I am
editing. Can anyone help me to determine if, in fact, Money can actually
"learn" so that I am not constantly editing? Are there settings or other
things that I need to do?

Thanks.
