The ishares has some loss due to expenses. So it's an approximation.

SLV appears to be about the price of 10 oz. I don't know if that is
official or not. It is an ishares ETF as is IAU.

It would be nice to have a symbol for spot or near futures, but
AFAIK those are not available for Money.

Use the Gold index US:GLD.NV (others like it). It tracks directly with the
price of gold. I think there are SLV indexes also. Buy the # of shares
that equal your investment and go. You don't need to track ounces. Better
yet, sell your metal and buy the index for real.

Carl, do you know of a ticker like that for silver? Also using the method IAU
or 72.46 X 10 I get 724.6$ where gold was at 730$ is +/- 6.0$ expected?

But I sure have a lot of data in Money that is more important and harder to
do anything alternate with than what I have in Word or Excel.

You can create an investment account. Into that account, buy shares
you could call Gold10 representing a tenth ounce, and use symbol IAU
to approximate the price of 0.1 ounces of gold.

I have never heard of GNUcash before but will have to look into it. I agree
totaly with what you said about money and money is definitly one microsoft
product where there is not alot of benifit to stay with as oposed to an
word/excell type product. I wish money was better I truely do but I find
isues everywhere I turn where they could be making a 10X better product.

You could certainly define Investments where you considered shares=ounces of
whatever in your head. How you'd get a quote into Money to apply against
that investment, besides manual quote entry, is a lot less clear.

I think you'd find it a force fit.

GNUcash has a cool design that allows any account (wherein account is also
much more flexible than Money and is synonymous with Account and Subcategory
and Investment in Money terms) to be valued in units in any token of worth
(dollars, ounces of gold, acres of land, shares). Money hasn't re-thought
any of this in more than a decade and it sure looks like they are working
harder on implementing an exit strategy than on improving the product.
