Essentials is intended for the absolute newbie and will not even read a
previous .mny file. Thus the Quicken import is also zapped.

Thanks for the fast replies...I don't see that in the menu options
under file, and I also noticed I am using the 2007 trial file, not the
2008, if there is one.

If it's going to work, that would be File-> ConvertQuickenFile.

They are listed under "C".

Thanks...so they have abandoned Canada. That's ok, I just wish the
giant would say so officially. When I installed the 60 day trial of
2008 essentials, I didn't see any Canadian banks. I also didn't see
any way to convert quicken files.

No wonder I've stuck to Quicken 2000.

There is no longer a Canadian specific product. Canadians can
actually use any version. They will get Canadian banks, they just
won't get other Canadian specific info (taxes, RRSP vs 401k, etc).
If they use a US term such as IRA, they can parallel many of the
functions. I expect this will be some problem for tax preparation
in that the basis rules for Canada (average across all accounts)
vary from US rules (basis within accounts with some more choices in
some cases).

I think that Money uses the Windows regional settings to determine
some things that it does differently, including basis. I don't
know what happens if you switch those settings back an forth.

Canadian banks are included in the unified list, altho the Money
interface of the banks themselves is often limited to the Web
interface.

Money Plus and 2007 do not have a "Canadian" mode as did some
earlier versions of Microsoft Money. I expect those should be
able to convert the Money files Canadian versions since Money 2000,
but of course I can't be sure. The current file format is a
unified North American English version. I don't know what the
situation is for Canadian French files. I expect Money Plus is the
same in this regard, but I am not sure. If you want to buy Money
Plus Deluxe (you could not use Essentials for your purpose), you
would need a US address.

The version sold in Canada is Money 2006. As far as I know it is
the Canadian Microsoft people who make that determination. I would
not expect Money 2006 to expire for Canadian users unless a later
version was offered. I am not speaking for Microsoft, but I am
trying to interpret. But that would parallel the case in the UK
where they sell Money 2005 still. Yet the parallel is not the same.
If you go to microsoft.ca and look for Money, it ends up at the US
site. In contrast, microsoft.co.uk would get you to
http://www.microsoft.com/uk/homepc/m...s.aspx?pid=002

So I wish I had more clear info for you. It's somewhat cloudy for
me too.

http://www.cdw.ca/shop/search/result...rm=all&x=0&y=0
shows Money 2006.

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...7921&CatId=972
actually shows Money 2007, but I wonder if the order would actually
get fulfilled.

http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/ca...affixedcode=WW
shows Works 2006 which includes Money.

Default ms money canada

Can someone fill me in on the latest version for Canada? It appears
to be 2006, but I can't find anyone selling it. What limitations does
the US version have, if any?
