Read this carefully: there is no way to read non-Essentials Money files with
Money Essentials (MEss). It's well documented by Microsoft and by design.

these files too, but without any luck.

I will appreciate if you can share your experince and solution with me if
you found one.

Adrian,

I feel your pain! First, I have used this product for a long time for
nothing more than checkbook balancing and downloading credit card statements
thats it and want nothing more. I ended up in the same boat as you. My
Money 2006 started popping up some forced upgrade thing and would not do auto
updates from american express for me. I bought the $20 update and got
screwed the same way "Microsoft Money does not support Microsoft Money
files?" wait maybe it's in "MNYX" format i'm sure somebody will get a
chuckle out of that one.
I have 8 years of financial data in money format and hopefully quicken or
some other app OSX? can save me from this debacle.

It tells you on the purchase pages that it will not convert Money files.

I believe that Essentials is positioned as a starter package/intro for
people who have never use a financial package before and think it might
offer more than Excel.

I do not respond to any emails that I have not specifically asked for.

I literally just found that out as I was heading back here. That's a mighty
shameful scam they've got going on there.

Thanks for the reply.

There is a return privilege. Start with the place who sold you the
software. You need Deluxe.

Default Is MS Money Essentials gimped?

I bought Essentials because I honestly only wanted the basic functions for
some personal financial management. But when I tried to either restore a
backup or open my Money 2006 files it says Microsoft Essentials is unable to
open files from other versions of Money.

This seems awfully backwards to me and infuriating if it's true. Who would
create a program that couldn't work with previous versions of (essentially)
the same program? Is there a fix for this? I've looked but can't find
anything.

TIA
