| Yes, that seems to work. I didn't realize "Recover Account" appends (it sounds like it would wipe out all transactions and replace them). Thanks for the reply! | That's great! Thanks! I was a bit confused by the naming convention; "Recover Account" sounds like it was going to replace all transactions in the account. Happy to see that it just appends. The differences in the imports (to me) seem then to be: 1) "Import-> Recover Account" seems to import data and represent the data in how it's formatted in the QIF file, but doesn't do any reconciliation. 2) "Import-> Download Statement" ignores categories and splits, but does reconciliation. Thanks again for getting me on the right path! "Michael Gordon" wrote: - quote - > You cannot import a QIF Statement and maintain category information. | You cannot import a QIF Statement and maintain category information. You have to Import using "Recover Account" in order to bring in categories. This method does NOT allow for reconciliation with pre-existing transactions, so make sure you do not already have that transaction in the register before doing the import. The split will come through fine -- Michael Gordon "Cal Learner-- MVP" <via_newsgroup[at]please.tnx> wrote in message news:d7ktd315n3ucu5f71lpr5hsvg8fu03q868[at]4ax.com... - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, Hemol wrote: > > I have an external database I'm formating deposits from which need to be > > put > > in Money as split categories (single transaction). Have you tried importing as a New or Recovered Account?> in Money as split categories (single transaction). I'm formating my own QIF > file for this. | I have an external database I'm formating deposits from which need to be put in Money as split categories (single transaction). I'm formating my own QIF file for this. I used the Export files format as a template. The problem I'm having is when importing I'm losing both Categories and Split Transactions (it treats a split like a single item). To test, I've Exported my account data and then re-Imported that exact file (no changes) and no categories are imported AND split transactions are not imported! Am I missing something here?!? Microsoft is Exporting a QIF that it can't Import properly? Can Money not handle importing Categories and/or Splits? I searched Money looking for a setting that might turn off this option, but I can't find anything that looks like it would prevent catagories and splits from importing properly. Here is a very simple version of the QIF file I'm trying to import: !Type:Bank D9/5'2007 Mdeposit of 9/5/2007 LAuto T500.00 SAuto Eparts $300.00 SAuto Egas $200.00 ^ I've played around with the file a ton, but can never get categories and splits to show up. In the above, "Auto" is the category (only 1 in this simplified example). When I import the above, I simply get a deposit transaction of $500 with a memo of "Mdeposit of 9/5/2007". The split info and category info doesn't show up (and I do have a category of "Auto" defined). Any help is great appreciated as I am pulling my hair out over this. It just doesn't seem like it should be this hard. |
