That is a good idea. The fact that sample.mny *does* open makes
that [the reinstall] less likely to be the cure, but it is worth
a try.

That suggestion to run chkdsk is unusual. Did you try chkdsk?

From a command (DOS) window try these:

cd "C:\Program Files"
dir salv.exe /s

That will look for salv.exe for you.

That is a good idea. The fact that sample.mny does not open makes
that less likely to be the cure, but it is worth a try.

If you have another computer available, you might even try
installing and running on that.

Thank you for the replies. I have tried doing a repair file and moving it.
THen it tells me to run "chkdsk" and also that the salv.exe isn't there.

I also opened the sample file and that opens fine.

It's literally putting me in tears to think I have to re-do all that... but
I'm going to keep trying to restore it some how.

Maybe I'll even try re-loading the software.

Thanks again!

Note also that putting your data file in Money's directory may not be a
great idea, especially if you are running Windows Vista. Putting it in My
Documents is a much better solution.

Make a copy of your Money *.mny file and your latest backup to a
different location, and maybe onto different media while you sort
this out.

I would open the sample.mny file that is typically in
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2006\". If you have a problem with
that, then the problem would tend to be something about your
installation rather than the Money file.

See if http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320193/en-us helps.

When you get to the repair part, you probably have salv.exe on your
computer in
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2006\MNYCoreFiles"
Running that would be the equivalent of the Standard file repair,
and it will try to make a repaired version of your file.

Default Please help... cannot open file

Hello! I just spent the last 3 days updating and balancing all my accounts
from the last 8 months. I spent hours doing it and I normally never get
behind like that, but I just had a new baby, so I don't have a lot of extra
time to spare.

Anyways... I'm getting the following error message:
"Money cannot locate 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2006\tamra2006' or
cannot open it, possibly because it is a read-only file or you do not have
permission to change it or your disk drive is write protected.

If you have chosen the correct file and it cannot be accessed, you will need
to click ok and open the most recent backup file.

If the file is being used by another application, close it in the other
application and click ok to try again."

It was working fine early today when I was finishing everything up and I
went to open it and got that message. The file is not "read-only" and I"m
not a completel idiot when it comes to computers, but the last backup file
was from 3 days ago before the 10 hours of work I just put into it.

Please does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks!
