You want to have at least one $1 entry dated from before you first held that fund. You could enter a new manual Update with a date from last century. Go to Investment-> Portfolio and right-click the fund. Choose SeeInvestmentDetails. There you can blank out the symbol. You can optionally add the symbol to the comments or rename the security to incorporate the symbol in the name. Then, from the Details, click PriceHistory-> UpdatedPrices-> UpdatedPricesManually. Delete all of the non-$1 prices. This should not be too difficult since the Delete key will auto-repeat. If you have an older version of Money, the navigation may be a little different. This occurred during an update evening of 17 Aug 2007 that involved a quote supplier change. I have seen a positive effect, but there is a negative one that has popped up for some users. It appears that most MMFs with a public symbol are now downloading a bogus (not $1) price from the new quote server. If the 7-day annualized yield is 4.8%, the price is downloaded as $4.80. This results in inflated portfolio values. See http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com...orkstatus.aspx |

| I think I found the problem. I viewed the price history for this money market fund, and I saw about 100 entries that were NOT $1.00. These entries had all come from online updates. I deleted these entries manually. I think that my computer mouse is worn out now. I also added an asterisk (*) to the end of the trading symbol. I hope that this will prevent any further online updates to this money market fund. -- David Arnstein (00) arnstein+usenet[at]pobox.com {{ }} ^^ |

| I have been using the ""Performance by Investment Type" report in Microsoft Money for years. I am using the 2007 "Premium" version now. I just noticed this problem today. I *think* it is new, but I am not entirely certain. One of the line items in this report is a money market fund. I classified it as a mutual fund in MS Money. Like most money market funds, this one has a stable share price of $1. I make frequent "buys" and "sells" of this fund. The overall trend is down, I have been selling more than buying. Today, the "Performance" report shows the following bogus columns: Realized Gain / Loss: 0.00 Return for Period: (large negative number) % Rate of Return: -15.18 Annual % Return -44.29 The last number is especially troublesome. It should be a small positive number, reflecting the modest interest rate that the money market fund pays out. So now I doubt the accuracy of this report for all my investments. Is there a solution to this problem? Perhaps I should switch to a different report? I am most interested in the total annualized return (last report column) for my investments, for various periods of time. Thanks for any suggestions. -- David Arnstein (00) arnstein+usenet[at]pobox.com {{ }} ^^ |
