| Mike, No need to buy anything new if you want to start afresh, I believe that you can do so using Money 2005. Just do a search on your computer for "sample.mny". (It is probably in your C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money 2005 folder). Double click on that file and Money 2005 should open without needing a password. You can then go to File > New to create your new file. Be sure to click on "I Decline" when it prompts you to set up an on-line account. And then you can go cut the grass. -- Peace, BobJ "Mike F from TN" <MikeFfromTN[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:EA4A8A2E-F477-454A-AD31-9377B310C35E[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > it is Passport/Live ID, which I thought was required in order to install > the > program. | No, I left off a zero <g> . My *.mny (not *.mbf) file is about 15,000 KB. But my point is the same. It's less than three times the size of the OP's file and covers about 4 times the time period, so his might not be out of line. -- Peace, BobJ "Cal Learner-- MVP" <via_newsgroup[at]please.tnx> wrote in message news:rsv6d3pol0ind50n85ahvns9q4tpgt8u6j[at]4ax.com... - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, Marilyn & Bob wrote: > > > "Cal Learner-- MVP" <via_newsgroup[at]please.tnx> wrote in message > > news:l596d3to9esgsjv8a0sjckgmlbfkmu6gsr[at]4ax.com... > > > In microsoft.public.money, Mike F from TN wrote: > > > > > > Paragraph 1: correct > > > > Paragraph 2: have not done this yet. | I'm not sure anybody who frequents the NG will ever recommend MEss to anybody for any purpose. I certainly won't. MEss is so crude that it doesn't even recognize the most basic accounting concept of "Transfer". This inability renders things like its Income and Expense reporting pretty much useless. And it, too, is heavily designed toward the "online" user who can't imagine entering a transaction instead of downloading it. Perhaps even more so than Mxx Deluxe. | This has gone far enough. I no longer wish to use Money 2005. I cannot recover the file passwords due to exhorbitant cost. Instead I will start over. Please suggest, if you can, a product from MS or anyone else that will do simple home financial records like an income/expense register similar to Money's that can reconcile and print reports. It must not require online use or passwords. I will pay for it, because I've discovered that freeware confirms the statement, "you get what you pay for." Thanks for all you have done. I'm not at all clear on what all of your issues are in getting into the files as I haven't been following the thread all that closely, but assuming you get past them, the paths in the second link referenced will help you remove the Passport/WinLive ID. You might also want to consider opening a support case directly with Microsoft. There are limits to what help your fellow users can provide in this kind of an environment. | Thanks Dick. As in everything I do, I need step by step "how to" information. How do I remove the password? I haven't a clue how to sort out the problems either. That is why I got on this forum. To create a new file with no password or Passport/LiveID in Money 2005, File-> New-> NewFile. Select Decline during setup, and then click that you don't want a conventional password either. After you create the file, expect Money to ask for Passport login the next three times. If you decline three times in a row, it will stop asking. |
