Dry entering a dividend for RRD.... into the name of the investment
type those three letters, and then hit Tab. Choose Dividend. Note
that the name in the box may have changed. Finish creating the
dividend.

Right-click that dividend, and choose GoToInvestment. Click Details.
Whatever that investment is, if the symbol is RRD, blank or change
its symbol. If the name is RRD, Rename it to something else
distinctive or meaningful-- depending if it is something you really
hold.

The symbol RRD should now be freed up. Delete the fake dividend.

Let us know what happens.

Default How do you completely delete an Investment?

Including it's symbol association? While posting transactions for an
existing investment that had a symbol change I created a new investment named
the new symbol. Specifically I was posting a buy for RR Donnely and created a
Mutual fund called RRD. AS soon as I noticed my error I canceled the
transaction but the RRD symbol is forever linked to the non-existant 'RRD'.
I've since tried to 'buy' 1 share of RRD. Add a .01 dividend, go to the
details for RRD and change the symbol to ZZZZ. Then go to RR Donnelly and
change it's symbol t RRD but Money still thinks RRD is my mythical mutual
fund. I've tried deleting RRD from the portfolio manager and deleting all
price updates for RRD but Money2007 persisted in linking the symbol. Anyway
to just get rid of the investment?
