Yes, the Investment Performance module of Money 2007 has a problem
if you have a lot of stocks for it to handle.

I find it hard to believe that it can take that long to update that amount
of info. I no longer have that module on my home page.

Does that feature have some problem with it?

Many thanks for the help & advise.

Let's try this:
In your Money 2007, I suggest you open any file you can, such as
Sample.mny. In XP, you can do that by going to your Money install
folder and right-clicking Sample.mny, and choosing Open.
Go to Tools-> Settings-> ProgramSettings and set the
(GeneralDisplayStartMoneyWithThisPageOpen:Accoun tList.
Close Money.

Then open the problem file once or twice. It should open to the
account list. Hopefully things are going at normal speeds.

Then Tools-> Settings-> HomePageDisplayOptions and Remove the
Investment Performance module. If you still have a problem, remove
everything. If the problem goes away, you can add things back until
the crash does not happen. Add back in the other things you want
on the home page. Let us know which was the problem module.

Now this may not be the problem you are having, but it will be worth
a try. If it does not help, there are some other things to consider.

Sorry for the confusion. The problem is that as soon as I start Money it
goes into an updating my accounts mode. It is using up 99% cpu and doesn't
allow an account entry because it is always in this update mode.

Your post stated that you had the "same problem". I was trying to
figure out what problem you were referring to. What is problem you
were posting about?

BPhillbin wanted to have no statement downloads and no quotes. I
would be surprised if that is the same thing you had wanted.

That option has to do with you wanting to get downloads via MSN
Money for one or more institutions that use the term "third party"
in the description in http://www.microsoft.com/money/bankonline.aspx

That's not what my posting stated. But since you asked I verified that
action and when I do go to that setting, yes all I am presented with is the
ability to enable that service if I wish

"MSN Money My Accounts works with many banks and brokerages to download your
account information to Money and make your account information available to
you from any online computer.
Note: Account information from some banks is not available from MSN Money My
Accounts. Tell me more
Click Next to see some of the things you can do if you enable this service."

The above is the option. What does it mean? I assume if I want to use it I
should click "next" and get started

So are you saying "When i go to settings and Receive Account
Updates..., i am only prompted to set up a new MS Live ID"? What
does that mean?

I also have been having this same problem w/money 2007. I'm running XP Home
version. Even if I put Explorer in offline mode I still get the constant
updating. Money will not let me enter any of the downloaded info I have
already for my accounts. As it is I now have a use less piece of finacial
software that I acquired because i thought my old Quicken 04 was bad news.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You can set IE to work offline with File-> WorkOffline. You could use
a different browser for web work.

Thanks. I would prefer for Money to not do its thing simply because i want
to do my banking at home without interference of the downloads. i had it
working fine and i don't need anything from the site so would prefer to just
turn the whole thing off and work offline all the time.
When i go to settings and Receive Account Updates..., i am only promted to
set up a new MS Live ID - my info is not currently in there, and there is no
place to disable the connection in the first place. Is there somewhere i can
just choose to work offline all the time, and then manually import any
downloads from my bank?
Thank you!

You might try in IE File-> WorkOffline.
Alternatively, you might try opening up your firewall to permit
Money to do its thing.

If you have a LiveID/Passport on your file, I would consider
removing it. Disable Background Banking if it is enabled using
Tools-> Settings-> ReceiveAccountUpdatesFromMsnMoneyMyAccounts. Then
File-> PasswordManager.

Thank you for the note. I actually already saw this - but it doesn't help me
because I don't use online bacnking services and never have. I have never
downloaded any updates or anything. I also went through the instructions on
that site but it says that if you don't use the online banking services, you
should not have to update your accounts and to go no further. So
unfortunately, it doesn't help me.

Default Money Automatic Updates preventing me from using Money

i've been using 2007 Home & Biz version 16.0.150.1303 for a while now with no
problems. about a month ago, i started getting the message 'updating your
accounts' when i open money, and it never stops. i don't use online updates
- i download my files from my bank and manually import them. i wouldn't care
except that i can't complete any functions in Money, like reconciling my
checking account, because i get the message that an online process is going
on. i never had this issue before, but i can't use Money and haven't been
able to for about a month now! help, please, if anyone can
