| I don't spend hours entering my data, but I have more than a decade of practice at doing so and I'm not too bad at driving a keyboard as I do it 10+ hours a day. I spend an order of magnitude here helping others than I ever spent entering transactions. Yes, Transfer specifies a destination account and the source account is implicit in what account register you are entering the transaction in. The downloads will duplicate--unless it automagically matches or you help it do so. So, let's say you download the first half. Money wants to call it some kind of expense or income. You know better so you categorize it as Transfer:[name of other account] before accepting it. So far so good! Now you go to download the other half of that for the other account. Money should, if karma is good and settings for downloaded transaction matching are set correctly and so forth, recognized either by date or amount or both that there is already a transaction for the same amount and the same or close date in the account you are downloading for. It should match this with the downloaded one or offer you the opportunity to do so for it. You shouldn't need to delete anything. Just accept its proposed match or do the match for it. All will be good. Perhaps one of the many download transaction mavens can step in here and clarify this if I have missed some step. | Thanks for your help. I am using advanced register. I think you can indicate which account the transfer originates from and goes to. But I think the transaction download duplicates the amount. I may be deleting the wrong transfer transaction. Probably the Transfer one is linked between accounts and I should be deleting the downloaded one since that's not linked yet. I think when I delete the transfer amount which is categorized as a TRANSFER it impacts both accounts so nothing ever balances. I use downloaded data because it would take hours otherwise to enter manually but you are right you avoid my particular problem. | Are you using Advanced or Essential Register? In general, I think you need to MATCH the second half of these transfer type transactions when you download it with the transaction that should be showing in that account from the Transfer you entered previously from the other account. Personally, I never download any transaction data. I avoid all manner of problems like this. | I am using Money 2007 Deluxe. I am having trouble reconciling my bank statement and the amount listed in money. I believe the problem is transferring funds between different institutions. For example I transfer funds between my primary bank checking account and my Internet savings account. I choose the transfer option from the drop down menu. I tend to get duplicates in the receiving account. (I download the transactions straight from the originator and receiving bank for convenience) I do delete the extra one but I think that can affect the originating account balance. My running balances often do not match and I hate adjusting the starting balance amount when balancing my accounts. The Money help also mentions entering the transaction into the Bill payment but I don't see how that helps. Any help? I am amazed that the online help does not have more details about this issue! This problem makes my efforts in Money feel wasted! |
