Default Re: Money Plus woes

Hi Ed,

It's the way I work with Money - I don't accept a transaction until I've
reconciled it with a receipt. Sometimes, I save up receipts for too long
before reconciling them as was this case...

Take care,
John

Why would you have so many unaccepted transactions? I always
accept within 24 hrs, usually within minutes but sometimes I need
my paystub to tie my paycheck out before I accept those direct
deposits.

Default Re: Money Plus woes

Apparently, my slowdown is due in large part to the amound of unaccepted
transactions (125+) I currently have. Accepting all transactions greatly
improves performance. So I think that because of the large amount of time
it takes to process online transactions with my Money file, it is showing
that there can be timing issues. Namely:

1) If Money starts processing online transactions in the account with a
large number of unaccepted transactions before processing Service Updates,
the processing Service Update Money window will hang until the online
transaction processing finishes.

2) Running Insight with Money performing an online update can apparently
lead to Insight looping after an online update. This will prevent Money
from processing online updates. Of course, the Insight process might be
actually processing the online transactions itself, I just don't know.
Killing Insight, and performing another online update seems to fix the
problem albeit rather slowly in my case.

YMMV...

Hi,

I have a sinking feeling that I'm in trouble with this new version. It
turns out that I still have a problem with online updates taking a long
time. The reason why it seems to work after the first download is because
there were no new transactions to download. However, after waiting a few
day and then downloading, I still have the same problem.

Here's the sequence of events:

1. Open Money and perform an online update.
2. Appeared to update properly but "Updating accounts" did not appear for
each account like it normally does, just the first account.
3. After a moment, Insight starting spinning. Money claimed an online
operation was still in progress each time I tried to change a match.
4. While Insight was spinning, Money did not say that it was "updating
accounts"...
5. After a while I quit Insight from the tray icon. The icon went away but
Insight kept spinning.
6. Leaving Money left Money running in the tray.

I killed Money and Insight. Then I restarted Money, restored it from the
last version that worked, did a level 2 repair followed by a quick repair.
Then I did a online update. After the update, it told me it was "updating
accounts" and it took about a half hour to update. I also notice that
trying to "change" a transaction's match takes a much longer time about 1
minute per transaction.

Do I need to do another "nuke the bills"? I did this for M2007 and got
pretty good response times but it was a pain.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Mine is around 8M. Perhaps it's because I do not use some of the
features, like budget. etc. or manage less accounts; not sure. I have
current year and previous year. I archive and zip all others to store
on CD. In my prior post, I was comparing the 45M to my 8M, but now
realize some folks have data files that are even larger. I've been
using MS Money for many years and have always upgraded with data file
conversion.

44M is not a particularly huge file. Mine is 60.9MB.

Archiving is specifically recommended against by many here, myself included.
See this thread and posting for some results from the last time I
experimented with it:

Mine is 53MB and I don't have that churn.

No, I have never used a Windows Live/Passport login with Money... also there
was no network activity going on, just CPU churning...

Are you using a Windows Live password for your file? Did it

Thanks for the info!

File-> RepairMoneyFile-> QuickFileRepair might shrink a bit further.
Maybe not, but it is safe.

OK, I guess my 37M Money file just takes a long time (figure about 60-90
minutes) to do the first online update. It finally finished (Money file
temporarily grew to 45.5M at the end of the update but went back to 37M
after leaving Money). Subsequent updates appear to work fine. While there
is a warning when upgrading a Money file that the first online update would
take a bit longer than normal, I must say that I never thought it was that
order of magnitude! I wonder if having Insights running during the first
online update could not have exacerbated the original problem. This time I
made sure Insights wasn't running and other than the long update there
wasn't a problem. I turned Insights back on and it seems to work fine.

Sorry for the false alarm... but maybe someone else will be prevented from
uninstalling this version and throwing it out the window like I was tempted
to do!

Well, I went back to my M16 file and reconverted it. Problem goes away
until the first online download in which case it ends up "updating accounts"
forever. I tried doing a quick repair after the conversion but that had no
affect. This is frustrating, to say the least.

Default Money Plus woes

Hi,

I upgraded to Microsoft Money Plus from Money 2007. Didn't seem to have a
problem. When I did an online update, it worked fine the first time. All
updates finished as normal and accounts seemed to update properly. I did a
save of this money file. The second time I did an online update, Money hung
in Service Updates and the account update spinner kept on turning. After a
long time of nothing and money using up 100% of CPU time constantly I killed
the money process and restarted it. Now the account update spinner keeps
turning and CPU is at 100%. Future account updates don't work at all. I
tried restoring from the the save and that seemed to work but money
immediately went into the accounts update spin. I'm running out of ideas,
would appreciate any help.
