| Hallelujah! Finally, an answer to that annoying issue. After months and months of repeated "dings" using Money, it's finally fixed. It's so quiet using Money now that I almost miss the sound. Almost. Thank you so much, Brent! | It's not unique to Money, Ed; I've experienced it with programs as diverse as Registry Workshop. It's apparently part of an obnoxious IE legacy scheme: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/183912 "Ed Hansberry, MS-MVP/Mobile Devices" <spamfree-silvernino[at]hotmail.spambegone.com> wrote in message news:375sb35j052urebrcso8utn188cr8nvqd3[at]4ax.com... - quote - > Oh, that is too awesome. | Thank you for the feedback, Catherine, and you're quite welcome. I remember how annoying that was when I first installed Vista back in March, so I'm glad I could help. | Thanks, I found it easier to use the file Brent provided just because I don't often go into the registry, except when solving a problem step by step with MS technical support. I am no great computer specialist. I really appreciate the help provided here! "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, Catherine wrote: > > Thank you Brent! | Perfect, Brent, thank you! I am indeed reading the posts on the web. I executed the registry fix from your website and then rebooted and opened Money Plus. No more annoying beep when I right click on an item in the budget. Thank you so much for your help. Many servers remove attachments to text groups.> Otherwise I am more than ready to fix this annoying bug. He posted a file named DingFix.reg that contained 7 lines, three of which are blank: ========================begin DingFix.reg=========================== Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\.Default\ CCSelect\.current] [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\.Default\ CCSelect\.Default] [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\.Default\ CCSelect\.Modified] ========================end DingFix.reg============================ - quote - > "Brent" wrote: > > If you Merge the attached file into your Registry, it will remove the > > offending subkeys, and unlike the MSDN reference, should be a permanent > > fix. > > > You can save and Edit the file if you wish to view the contents. | If you Merge the attached file into your Registry, it will remove the offending subkeys, and unlike the MSDN reference, should be a permanent fix. You can save and Edit the file if you wish to view the contents. Let us know if this solves your problem, Catherine. | Great to know there's a fix for this annoying sound. I wouldn't want to tamper with my registry unless I am sure I know what I am doing. Whenever I alter the registry, it's through a series of clearly defined steps. Here, I am not sure how to go about it and wouldn't want to end up with a worse problem. Thanks. | I also experienced this annoyance after installing Vista, but after some experimentation, was able to resolve it by removing everything under the Registry Key "HKCU\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\.Default\CCSelect ". I have since come across this on MSDN if you require more information: http://channel9.msdn.com/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=333197 If you feel uncomfortable editing the Registry, I or someone else can provide you with a file which will perform this for you. | Thank you so much for the very prompt and helpful response. I reinstalled as you suggested, and now my .mny file does open with msmoney.exe. I no longer need to click the shortcut to the Money program in order to open it, or to open my other .mny file. Right clicking on various items in the budget list still causes that computer beep, though. I wish I could get rid of it! Thanks again. Thank you. setup file, and right-click that file, and choose RunAsAdministrator? If you did not, I would reinstall. If you did, I am surprised that a shortcut was not put into your Start menu in a folder called "Microsoft Money Plus". You could create your own new shortcut to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money Plus\MNYCoreFiles\msmoney.exe" to start Money if you installed into the typical location. You would need another one to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money Plus\MNYCoreFiles\mnyinsit.exe" to run Insights. |

| When I say that there is no icon next to my .mny file, I mean next to the file name in Windows Explorer of course. I should add that in order to open my .mny file, I must click on the Money program shortcut since clicking on the name of my .mny file leads me to a window instructing me to find the appropriate program (in other words, nothing happens since no program is recognized as being able to open the file). Incidentally, I used previous versions of Money before installing Money Plus, but I uninstalled the most recent version I had (Money 2006). Thank you again. | Hello, I downloaded and installed Money Plus yesterday in Windows Vista. It works fine, except for two bugs: --my computer beeps whenever I right click an item in the budget list, and this beep is not related to the sounds in Money; --there is no program associated with the .mny file, which means there is no icon either next to my .mny file. I cannot force a program to open it. When I browse and select msmoney.exe as the program that should open my .mny file, nothing happens. If someone has a solution to these problems, I would appreciate reading them. Thank you. |
