Regina never said what her version was that I could see.

As to your problem, let's ask this: did you recently reformat/reinstall
Money? If not, then I have no clue what your issue is.

Dear Dick Watson,
thank you for your postings in reply.

I am not using Money 2005 and as far as I could see also Regina did not.
My version is 2007 Deluxe, exactly 16.0.120.1303

Thanks in advance for any help.

And I will update the answer to include Password nags as a possible symptom
of the problem that applies to Money 2005 versions. Thanks for bringing this
omission to my attention.

And the same advice applies to you: It is ALWAYS helpful information in a
post to include version like "Money 2005 Deluxe". It is occasionally helpful
to know the full version number. (It will be something like 14.0.120.728.)
This is one of those cases.

As noted in my other post, if you are not using a reinstallation of M05,
then yes, this solution will not solve your problem. But you didn't say what
you ARE using.

Are you using Money 2005 on the new machine? As Cal asked, so shall I:
please report the version from Money Help|About. It will be something like
14.0.120.728.

It is ALWAYS helpful information in a post to include version like "Money
2005 Deluxe". It is occasionally helpful to know the full version number.
This is one of those cases.

Are you running Money 2005? Did you recently reinstall the application?

If not, then the answer indeed does not apply.

If so, Money whining about passwords is quite frequently how it tells you
that the data file is from a newer version (or, as in the case of
reinstalled M05, a newer service update to the same version).

But think what you will and continue to seek answers for your problem.

Dick Watson,
sorry your link might be incorrect. This link does not have any reference to
passwords. I found another FAQ about password problem. It describes the
reason for the trouble is likely the use of different program versions.

As I see, this does NOT APPLY HERE.

I am writing as I have a similar problem as Regina. Suddenly MSM asks for a
password and does not want to accept the Live ID.

So, it might be a common malfunction in the program, as there are already at
least two users who are suffering from this.

Did you read my posting telling you how/why this likely came to pass and how
to fix it if my supposition is correct?

Money is asking for the password.

The backup file was located both on the hard drive and a copy of the back-up
was located on a stick. Neither of the back-ups can be imported without a
password now

I do not use passwords on my computer (the one at home) -- for any program.

What is asking for the password? Windows? Money? To what were
backup files relocated? Remember, files have ownership. Is the exact
same "user and password" on the new machine as was on the old machine?

Hmmmm. What is the version number you see when you do Help-> About?

Yes, I reinstalled the program on another new computer. Program itself is
fine.
I have the opportunity to create new files, but when attempting to import
the back-up file, it now asks for a password to continue. There was no
password before.

I am not able to pick up where I left off, nor recover a year's worth of
files because of this apparent 'glitch'?

Thanks for responding. Regina

Default Asking for a Password?

I've been using Money for a year -- not password protected on my personal
computer. 2 weeks ago, a storm surge came through the phone line and well --
you know the rest. I was able to retrieve all my files from the hard drive,
BUT now that I have the Money back-up file ready to load back into the
program, it is asking me for a password that never existed!

What do I do?
