| Other than the addition of insights, it's difficult to tell the difference between Money 2007 and Money Plus (2008). I've found no significant additions or changes to any of the functions that I routinely use. I have been tinkering a bit though and believe that the Investment Performance module bug may have been fixed. In recent past versions, if I added the Investment Performance module to the homepage, the program would crash as has been reported by many in this forum. I've added the module to 2008 and so far no problems. It would be interesting to see if others who have had this problem confirm it is now fixed. Jeff |

| Apparently not. I haven't explicitly tested it, but given the insignificance of some of the things that have been discussed as great new features to M+, I'm thinking we would have heard about this by now. | And now it has that vital feature: associating a filename with a transaction so that all of those folks who want to save scanned receipts can have, more or less and probably for many, less, than they've been wishing for. Now these same folks can start complaining about moving and/or renaming and/or deleting these files and the link they stored in Money no longer being any good. |

| MS Money home page shows the difference between Money Plus Deluxe and Premium is: 1) Minimize capital gains taxes*** 2) Make tax-smart investment choices*** The 3 stars indicate the free offers with Premium that include GainsKeeper. So if you don't need GainsKeeper, is there any other significant differences between deluxe and Premium to warrant the extra $20? Thoughts? No. My processor is older and does not support that.> startup? | Money Plus (AKA Money 2008) has some useful improvements. The lead feature is the Insights, which will optionally watch for and display upcoming Bills, spending, and cash flow info. It is done using a single tray icon. It is completely optional and not pushy. One thing that everybody will run across is an activation system-- a first for Money. There will be an KB article with FAQ info. Each key will limit activation to two installs. A reinstall to the same computer should not require a key unless there has been big change in the hardware. The install will run 60 days without activation, but there is a nag/reminder that will come up each time you start Money Plus until activation. But there are quiet things that are significant. There is an improved statement download. You are able to select to have direct direct FI statements downloaded in the background, even if there is no LiveID on the file. That is totally optional. On Tools-> InternetUpdates-> CustomizeUpdates there is a checkbox to control that. If the box is set, mnybbsvc.exe, the background banking service, is run. If you open a Money file where the checkbox is cleared, mnybbsvc.exe ends. I installed the trial version of Money Plus (AKA Money 2008). I converted a file that had a LiveID with a third party FI as well as a direct direct FI. I logged in specifying that I wanted to work offline. The note said that *some* things would not work. I was still able to update and download a statement from the direct direct FI. Also nice is that the interaction with USB flash drives for backup is fixed up well. It can write to drives with more than 2 GB of space remaining, and the setting for the number of scheduled backups to retain is honored. Some things feel faster moving between windows, such as Account-List <-> Portfolio, but I cannot be sure it is not my imagination. File size initially got larger, but a File-> RepairMoneyFile-> QuickFileRepair brought it down smaller than the file that had been converted to Money Plus. It will be interesting to see how that works out for others. |
