| I wish I had posted here before I bought the Money 2005 software, I would have bought 2007 instead. The M05 is installed on my laptop and my M01 .mny file is transferred, installing went smoothly. The patch must download in stealth mode, I never saw anything on screen about it. There was a popup window advising of a "Critical Banking Update" but opening the link on it lead to a blank M/S webpage. My version is 14.0.120.1105 which, if I read the M05 Help utility correctly, indicates the latest, updated version. Thanks for your excellent, helpful response! You understand wrong. No version passes info from your file to an> now purchased a new laptop running Windows XP Pro. MSN server without a LiveID/Passport on the file. With a LiveID/Passport and synchronization enabled, Money 2005 passes significantly more than Money 2007. Money 2007 does not send data to servers. If you do set up online statements for an institution where the data comes in via a third party, that account will appear on MSN Money/MoneyCentral protected by SSL access. Microsoft Money will get info *from* there for that account. Accounts that are direct OFX downloaded or hand entered will not appear on Money/MoneyCentral. - quote - > My question is whether I should first install 2001 on the laptop and move the

You will still be able to type info in by hand. |

| No version of Money "automatically sends your info to M/S servers" Synching with MSN Money requires that you elect to Access Money on the Web (which requires that you use a Windows Live ID/Passport so secure your data file). Money 2007 actually does less synching than 2003-6 in that it will only bring down data from MSN Money for financial institutions that have to have their websites "scraped" because they don't offer direct connection/download into Money. MSN Money Sync in older versions of Money 2006 (and older) actually did upload your own transactions to MSN Money so that you could "view it anywhere". But again, you have to choose to enable/allow this. -Mark "puget93" <puget93[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:C44B2315-1E9C-4EAC-A4D8-3BDF77965B13[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > I've been using Money 2001 Deluxe on a desktop PC running Windows 98 but > have > now purchased a new laptop running Windows XP Pro. | Don't get hung up on data being sent to MS. It isn't unless you choose to. The simplest way to upgrade is to install M2005 on the laptop. Note that M2005 out of the box needs a patch to be downloaded so startup M2005 and open the sample.mny file. This will go online and download the patch. The version number from Help > About should be 14.0.*.1105 after the patch is downloaded. Copy your M2001 .mny file to the new laptop using a USB memory stick. Then navigate to where you put your .mny file; double click on the file name and this will start M2005 and convert your M2001 file (and remember where the file is for future use). -- Regards Bob Peel, Microsoft MVP - Money For UK tips & fixes see http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=fh;EN-GB;mny. I do not respond to any emails that I have not specifically asked for. | I've been using Money 2001 Deluxe on a desktop PC running Windows 98 but have now purchased a new laptop running Windows XP Pro. I still have the 2001 CD but have also bought a new, unused copy of Money 2005 Deluxe on eBay. (I bought the older version because I didn't want my info automatically sent to M/S servers and understand 2005 was last version where this is not the case). My question is whether I should first install 2001 on the laptop and move the ..MNY file from the desktop, then install the 2005 or should I just install 2005 on the laptop and transfer the 2001 .MNY file? Thanks for sharing your experiences and expertise! |
