| Thanks Cal Learner; I appreciate you replying so quickly. Unfortunately thats not an acceptable approach. My PC is for business. Would any other vendor stay in business if they suggested their software needed to be installed in 'another' windows profile? It's an even less acceptable solution coming from the creators of Windows itself! The software is not fit for purpose. I'm ditching it and buying Quicken. The website was even localised for Australia! http://www.quicken.com.au/ Notes to others: MS has launched a new version of Money in Aug 07... in the US. To get a common sense view of what is going on save yourself some time & see the well written entry on Wikipedia. MS website is full of wasteful & confusing spin. If, like me, you are not based in the US, Canada or the UK. Forget looking on Microsofts Website for information on how to purchase a new version of the International Edition. A search for keywords: "money international download" in the live search returned nothing relevant. Again; anyone about to waste an afternoon on MS Money forget it - try www.quicken.com "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, SimoninSydney wrote: > > Hi, > > I'm running IE 7 (7.0.5730.11) with AVG (version 7.5.487) > > As far as I can see AVG is not set to prompt me for files > > I've set money:\\ as a trusted site > > IE7 has been set to allow all cookies (& NOT to overide automatic cookie > > handling) > > > I am having all the troubles Mark has written about > > > Any thoughts? > You could try Mark's suggestion to create a new user, and create a > new Money file as that user (select Decline, since you don't need a > Live ID on the file). | Hi, I'm running IE 7 (7.0.5730.11) with AVG (version 7.5.487) As far as I can see AVG is not set to prompt me for files I've set money:\\ as a trusted site IE7 has been set to allow all cookies (& NOT to overide automatic cookie handling) I am having all the troubles Mark has written about Any thoughts? | What version of IE are you using? Is IE your default browser? Have you tried resetting IE's security settings to the defaults? Do you have some other security/firewall/anti-virus software installed/running that may be blocking access? If so, see if you have some restrictions in place (for example it is set to "prompt" you for installing/downloading this type of file) Money won't prompt you for a new Windows user profile, since you choose your Windows profile when you start Windows before Money even starts. So, I think you may have that confused with creating a new Money data file. A new Windows User gives you all the "default" settings (for IE and Windows) so that can help identify if the problem is due to some changes in the settings in your original Windows user. If it wasn't some third-party security software blocking access, you might be able to get Money to behave better by adding the following to IE's Trusted sites list: money:\\ -Mark "ThaDraGun" <ThaDraGun[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:5A87A85F-4447-422C-9CD8-760AF4248D6F[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > I'm about ready to give up on this program and try something else. | I'm about ready to give up on this program and try something else. This is really frustrating. "Find and then delete the *.surplace files." - quote - > I did a search like they said and nothing shows up. I even checked search hidden files. etc. I also tried searching *.surfplace and got nothing.
If Method 1 did not resolve this issue, create a new user profile.> I did a search in regedit for *.surfplace and deleted what came up. I then reinstalled MS Money. - quote - > I deleted my user profile and it didnt do anything. When I open MS Money it prompts me to make another profile and I do. As soon as I hit ok that pop-up comes up and it does not have any option to check to ask to open everytime or not this file or not.
Is there any way to just set this in IE security to auto open it? |

| Did you use the last step in the article: When the new surfplace file is downloaded, you are prompted to open the file. Click to clear the Always ask before opening this type of file check box, and then click Open. -Mark "ThaDraGun" <ThaDraGun[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:E5217F0C-D14F-4849-AC9E-38727BE46F0A[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > That page didn't help me. > The problem is under Selective Startup there is no "Process Config.sys > file" > "Process Autoexec.bat file" or "Process Winstart.bat file if it is not > already unavailable" > All that is there is on mine is "process System.ini file", "process > win.ini > file", "Load system Services" and "load Startup Services" > Also, under the Win.ini tab there is no [windows]. > They keep saying *.surplace but it's actually "*.surfplace" > I'm using WinXP with service pack 2 > > See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917377/en-us |

| That page didn't help me. The problem is under Selective Startup there is no "Process Config.sys file" "Process Autoexec.bat file" or "Process Winstart.bat file if it is not already unavailable" All that is there is on mine is "process System.ini file", "process win.ini file", "Load system Services" and "load Startup Services" Also, under the Win.ini tab there is no [windows]. They keep saying *.surplace but it's actually "*.surfplace" I'm using WinXP with service pack 2 - quote - |

| I'm having a problem with Microsoft Money 2007 Deluxe and I'm thinking it must be a security setting thats not set right, but I can't find where to change it. It has something to do with Internet Explorer. When I first open up the program it immediately pops up a box saying: Do you want to open or save this file? Name: MNY1CB4.surfplace Type: SurfBoard Shim Doc Object View, 1.50KB From: surf.mar[at] I click open and it will load the login page. I enter my login and it says the exact same thing over again. I hit open and it will load the next page. This will happen for every Tab, link, or menu that I open. It's very annoying. Anyone know how to fix this? I've tried to find the answer on Google and there's no info. I have already downloaded all the updates for the program and still no luck. Thanks. |
