| Yah. I'll get really excited about these endless things we must click here to accept and continue when there's another button labeled "Let's Negotiate". Default is to make a backup on each exit. So it would record the latest 4 exits by default. I suggest checking x Automatically backup my Money file every time I close Money Save in [a place on your hard drive ] x Ask me before backing up each time* x Compress Backup Files Keep only the _20_most recent backup files [adjust to taste] x Perform scheduled backups every _14_ days Save in [a USB flash drive location] x Ask me before backing up each time* x Compress Backup Files Keep only the _2_most recent backup files [adjust to taste, but Money 2006 does not automatically trim to USB as it should] Then periodically, perhaps once per month or more, copy your latest backup (uniquely named by Money) to a CDR. With XP, this can be a copy and paste operation. Otherwise use the burning software that came with your CDR drive. I strongly suggest use of a USB Flash drive rather than floppies. They are bigger, so you don't have to swap media to back up. Plus they are much more reliable (but not failure-proof). - quote - > Rest assured I do copy the important data from my computer to alternate > storage locations on my home network on a very regular basis. > Thanks, > KenZ |

I ran through again and see where I went wrong. The previous screen had what looked at a glance like a standard EULA so I just clicked accept without reading anything. You know the rules, it's Microsoft, there are EULAs, just click accept and move on with life. I am curious about your comment on the backups, Are you saying it will by default make four backeups each time the program runs or does it make a different backup each time it is run keeping the last four copies? Is this product that unstable that I should have four or more different backups if I need to recover from a crash?!? Rest assured I do copy the important data from my computer to alternate storage locations on my home network on a very regular basis. Thanks, KenZ |

How do I get that patch installed? LiveID/Passport on the file, you can select Decline. Then if you want no conventional password either, you can click a link to that effect. This should not apply to an existing file being upgraded. Clear Portfolio-> UpdatePrices-> UpdateAutomaticallyEvery__Minutes for better speed when entering the portfolio view. By default, the backup of Money 2007 will make more than one backup. I suggest you raise from the default of 4 to a new bigger number. Also, I suggest scheduled backups to a USB flash drive. You will, however, have to manually trim the older files in the USB flash drive, due to a relatively harmless bug/quirk. |

| So I have puchased and installed Money 2007 and am going through the initial setup screens. I have come to the step "Sign in to you Money file" which demands to have my Windows Lie ID and password. I do not understand why Money demands to have this information, especially since I will not be connecting to any of my acounts online. I have tried entering bogus information, it obviously attempts to validate the information. How do I get past this? I will not be using the online abilities of the application, I only want to use the local files to store my data. Is there a program update that addresses this flaw? How do I get that patch installed? |
