Default Re: Why does MS Money sometimes completely ignore splitting a transact

I have seen what Bill describes. I **think** this is some kind of logic
built in to make assumptions about what to do when the total of the splits
doesn't match the total of the transaction and whether the total of the
transaction has been specified more or less recently by the user. In this it
is maybe similar to how entering value/price/qty in investment transactions
works.

As to r-click in bills, yes, this is whacked. Same with double-clicking on
bills. Sometimes it's "enter in register" other times it's "go to account"
with no apparent rhyme or reason.

Default RE: Why does MS Money sometimes completely ignore splitting a transact

Rod,
For me, Money 2007 (and 2004 before that) shows this behavior if I:
- enter a split transaction
- save it
- select the transaction and change the total
Now when I adjust the splits to match the new total that I just entered, the
total will change. Very annoying, but quite predictable.

I've never seen it happen with an initial entry of split information. Do
you see this with both recurring bills and with splits that you enter
directly? Just with downloaded transactions?

The list of erratic behaviors in Money is very long. My pet peeve is the
inconsistent behavior of the right-click in the Bill Summary screen. Most of
the time, right-clicking on a bill or deposit will give a drop down menu with
8 or 6 choices, including "Edit". But sometimes the drop down will only
contain two entries "Go to Account" and "Go to Payee". I've no clue as to
what makes this happen.

Never seen (noticed?) the phenomena. And I split something like 50% of my
transactions. Maybe I'm doing something different? What version/edition are
you using?

Default Why does MS Money sometimes completely ignore splitting a transaction up?

I've been a Microsoft Money user for many years, using many versions. The
BIGGEST complaint I have with MS Money is that sometimes, for reasons which
are completely inscrutable to me, it decides, all by itself, that when I
want to use the Split Transaction function, it decides to change the
"Transaction with Multiple Categories" on me. Every time when I am using
that functionality, I want to enter in each item and have it subtract what I
just entered into that dialog box from the total amount I entered, showing
me what is left. When it works properly I'll see a "Sum of Splits",
"Unassigned" and "Total Transactions".

But, when it decides, all by itself that it doesn't want to do this
functionality on the new purchase I am entering, it will show me only
"Total" in the "Transaction with Multiple Categories". It stops subtracting
from the total (it has mysteriously ignored the fact that I entered the
total and it is supposed to be subtracting each new item/category from the
total), and instead it just starts to add each thing up. When it goes
brain-dead like this, unless I am incredibly careful, it might add things up
and change the total I entered before I clicked the "Split" button!

Why has each and every version of MS Money do this sometimes? If someone
would please tell me what magical incantation it is I have to do, or stop
doing, to make this behavior stop, I would REALLY appreciate it!
