Be sure that your Money and backup files are moved to a spot that
you will have full privileges to, such as within the user's
Documents folder. If they are in ProgramFiles, Vista will create
an impermanent copy of the file for the user to use, unless the
user explicitly right-clicks at launch and choose
RunAsAdministrator that time.

Check that the SSL2 protocol is enabled. That checkbox is in IE
Tools-> InternetOptions-> Advanced.

Install Money by browsing to the setup file.
Right-click that file, and choose RunAsAdministrator.

After install, right-click the Money icon and choose
RunAsAdministrator. Then either open the sample.mny file in your
install folder, or let Money 2005 create a new Money file with
File-> New-> NewFile, clicking Decline in the process. It will do an
update. Close Money. Then open Money and check that Help-> About...
says you then have version 14.0.*.1105.

Then you should be able to open or restore your existing files that
are in your Documents folder.

I'm having exactly the same problem but I don't seem to have a sample.mny
file on my Vista PC. There is one on my old XP machine, should I use that?

Here's what I did when I went from XP to Vista and a new computer.
Instead of restoring from a backup, I copied my money file from my old
computer, created a new folder and copied my Money file to that on my
new computer running Vista. It worked for me!

Firstly stop playing around with backups and import (should be restore BTW).
Just copy your .mny file to the flash drive and copy to the Vista PC in an
area where you have unrestricted access. e.g. My Documents.

First time you run Money right click on the icon and select Run as
Administrator. Then navigate to sample.mny and double click on that. That
will start Money and it will recognise that it needs the update to go from
version 14.0.120.730 to 14.0.120.1105. The reason for using sample.mny is
that it doesn't put your live .mny file at risk.

Once the update has happened, close Money. Navigate to where you put the
live.mny file and double click. This will start Money and remember where it
found the live file for next time.

Default new computer (vista) copying money 05 file from XP (in the UK)

I've got another PC and I'm trying to take everything off the old one and put
it on the new one.

The old machine used XP, and the new one uses Vista.

I have created a back up file on the old 'XP' Money 05 program, copied onto
flash drive, and trying to use "import" function in Money on new Vista
machine.

Keep getting the message "log off and back on as an administrator"- I AM
logged in as the administrator- re start doesnt help get rid of this message.

If I try and open my back up file, or try the "restore" function I get a
message that says my file cannot be opened, as it may be encypted, or
password protected.

I have a suspicion that when I originally installed Money 05 onto the XP
machine it got an MS update. On this new machine using Vista it hasnt got
updates for money yet, I suspect there may be a version incompatability, but
I'm unable to get updates or get my original data file to work.

I'm sure this must be possible- but it defeats me.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

BTW cannot upgrade to 07 as in the UK where only version 05 etc available.

Many thanks.
