| Dear Cal Learner, your questions: yes, I have also reset the advanced options. yes, you did understand me correctly. Meanwhile, I can report that resetting the Live ID password did function, although sometimes I got the error pages. Maybe, the Microsoft server was overload yesterday afternoon. Now I am working at 10:00 CET, i.e. 4:00 ET of New York, and it functioned well. Furthermore, I found out there are different login pages for Money files: One page shows email address and password (both for the Live ID), the other only password. Can it be that this is a file that has its own password, different from that of the Live ID? If yes, how is it possible that such a password has been associated with the file, as I never created a separate password and always signed in the normal way (Live ID)? For me it seems the problem of online account update is solved with your kind help, the reason of malfunction being Live ID and the server problems with this feature on the side of Microsoft. The new questions are already out of the topic. Would you like me to start a separate topic regarding the login problems? Thanks in advance for any help. | Dear Cal Learner, I cannot open my Money file as the password is not accepted. I have tried to reset the Live ID password in MSN, but in some cases the message is: Service not available or We're unable to complete your request Windows Live ID is experiencing technical difficulties. Please try again later. Regarding the elder file which I could still open, I have now removed all passwords and Live ID and I CAN UPDATE FROM E*TRADE. So the problem seems to be caused by the Live ID. My question is now: How can I open the new file without knowing the password or what Money expects to be the password? I cannot open also the backup made from this file as there is also the password question. And yet you were able to create a new Money file as a different XPuser and connect to Etrade just fine. That is a significant point. You might try creating a new file without LiveID (with a different name) as your main user and see if you can set that file up to access Etrade. If that succeeds, look to your file as the problem. If it does not, look to something about the XP user as being the problem. This may not help, but it could be worth a try: If you are using IE6, I would consider going to IE7. If you are using IE7 I would consider reverting to IE6. - quote - > Thanks in advance for any help. > WB > "Cal Learner-- MVP" <via_newsgroup[at]please.tnx> schrieb im Newsbeitrag > news:ths3b3tofggbbsbh9pkf8o14b5j7d32kdg[at]4ax.com... > > In microsoft.public.money, WB wrote: > > > > All suggestions correct: > > > entering the missing URL did not clear the problem. > > > > > I tried new user and all was running. | Dear Cal Learner, I have now reset all IE safety settings to default settings, but the following happened: Cannot login to my money file as the password of Live ID is not accepted for this file. Then I opened another money file that was not set up for online update and tried to connect to E*Trade. I was asked to sign in my Live ID and this was successful, but then the update from E*Trade started immediately and after some seconds MSMoney broke down without usable error message (only the standard window). It seems that the IE settings have no influence. Thanks in advance for any help. One likely thing is that you tightened your IE settings. If you restore IE to the default settings, that is likely to do it. In IE, start with Tools-> Options-> Security-> LocalIntranet-> DefaultLevel which may be sufficient. If not sufficient, you can try the default level for the Internet zone and the TrustedSites zone. Then also in IE, Tools-> Options-> Advanced-> RestoreDefaults. Enable the SSL2 protocol in IE Tools-> InternetOptions-> Advanced. Let's hope you can then get things going as your current user. |

You want to use the direct OFX access. For testing, you could create a new Administrator user on XP. As that user, creating a File-> New-> NewFile for testing. During setup, select Decline; you will not need a LiveID on the file. Try setting up only Etrade. Does it set up and connect OK? If that works, then it would eliminate some things. | Dear Cal Learner, thank you for your postings. Meanwhile I did the repair as you instructed. There was some delay as it always said the file is in use by another process. Now I managed to have so much luck that the repair started though!! Then the repair log showed: No broken records in the original file. So I think, there is no chance to continue with this solution. Then I tried update for Etrade again and the same fault as before happened. What if the server of Etrade is turned off, can that cause a shutdown? Thanks in advance for any help.
